FC/OT: Lane Kiffin doubles down - should be separate leagues; SEC and a few B1G teams then everyone else…

Ole Miss controlled their own destiny and could easily have been in the playoff. All they had to do was beat either Kentucky (4-8), LSU (8-4), or Florida (7-5). He can whine all he wants but three losses to teams with those records doesn't deserve a playoff spot. The regular season matters. Apparently, Lane feels their upset of Georgia should have been a golden ticket.

The problem is he’s right! Except not all the SEC. Com’on… Vanderbilt, Mississippi St., Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky don’t scare anybody any more than NW, Purdue, IU, Rutgers, Maryland. There needs to be some realignment and some schools need to be dropped.

I think, in the end there will be some 20 teams that are mainly SEC and Big 10 “Bluebloods” with a few like Clemson, FSU, Miami thrown into a “Super Conference” for football.

If ND wants to stay independent and not join this conference… sayonara! They can play Army, Navy, IVY League, etc.

SEC will continue to be exposed because of legal revenue sharing and NIL.

Also, ND collects $14mm as their payout for the CFP - the other conferences share their $14mm cut with conference brethren.

Who is going to kick Kentucky out of the SEC and Purdue out the the BiG?

It is an interesting exercise to do an NCAA NFL Super Conference. Think about coming up with 32 teams, with two conferences and 4 divisions in each. Who do you put into it. Who has the fan base and money to belong? Can you get to 32?

Is the $14 MM per team in the CFP or total?

Agree. Lane is just showing his complete bias again. The middle and lower SeC teams are nothing special and aren’t better than middle or lower programs in the big 10.

The reality is it should be the top SeC and Big Ten teams and the occasional Clemson, Miami, FSU into a new conference- not ‘the SEC and a few others.’

And Ole Miss is not high on the list to make that new conference.

Someone might want to tell Lane the SEC is 1-4 against the Big Ten this bowl season so far. It looks more like it should be ‘the Big Ten and a few SEc teams’ instead.

Per team. But, since ND doesn’t revenue share they get it all.
So for the Big, that works out to $3.11MM per team ($14MM X 4)/18 (or do the new teams not get an equal amount?)
OSU and PSU will play either 3 or 4 games (each), Oregon 1 and Indiana 1.
OSU and PSU get some additional monies through parking and concessions (as does Notre Dame). Indiana and Oregon do not.

Financially, it seems "meh". But you are not in the playoffs for financial reasons.

Edit - expenses are different, and the BIG also pools the bowl revenue from other teams that play in other bowl games. So, in the long run, the BIG gets more than $3.11MM per team.

Exactly... most of the coaches and school complaining are the one's that had to win 1 more game than they did to make the playoffs and didn't get it done when it counted in the regular season. Bottom line is win 1 more game and they would be in the CFP. They need to stop complaining and look at themselves.

This is what happens when you transition from ‘hypotheticals’ and ‘eye tests’ to ‘win on the field.’ SEC is having a tough week with this new reality.

Current Final 4- Texas, Ohio St, Penn St, Notre Dame.

Old pre playoff top 4 approach would have been - Oregon, Georgia, Penn St, Texas. (That’s assuming the final rankings wouldn’t have changed if it was based on 4 instead of 12 teams which may not be true).

Still, the playoff has cut 50% of the ‘experts’ top 4 teams already. Imagine how things could have changed over the years in terms of champions if it was based more on head to head play rather than a popularity contest or ‘eye test’ to be voted in.

LMFAO at Christine Williamson’s comment…

Paul's show 1/3/25 early on had a call from Ohio. Ohio caller pointed out early in the year the caller predicted SEC is down, B1G is up, and TX will in fact be a SEC title contender and not 6-6, and NIL has leveled the field. Paul let him answer to his credit, but then didn't address any of his points and went onto the next safer caller from the holler.

Lane Kiffin was trying to make a point that his team belonged in the Playoff. He practically said that after the game. So I guess he figures that leaving his starters in for the entire game and blowing out an average (at best) Duke team who didn't have their starting quarterback or their best running back proves that a 3 loss Ole Miss team belonged in the Playoff. He makes no sense at all.

Fixed.
