I don't think sPitt fans realize that by saying that they're dunking on themselves.

you mean to tell me that the bowl organizers had an 8-5 Pitt team playing a 6-6 PSU team in the pinstripe?? do you realize what that says about how the organizers look at Pitt???

At a holiday party this year, a Pitt fan told me — with a straight face — “We’re hearing Narduzzi turned down the Pinstripe because there’s nothing to gain by beating Penn State.”

Seriously.

The reality is that the Pinstripe almost certainly would want to avoid a PSU/Pitt matchup at all costs. It would have been a terrible matchup for a bowl game - a regional game with no national interest featuring two mediocre squads. From a TV/national interest prospective, the bowl would surely jump on Clemson way before Pitt. And PSU/Clemson is a markable matchup given the recent success of both teams and brand names.

About the only justification would be in theory having more fans attending since they are relatively local schools, but even there I would expect Clemson with its larger fan base that travels to be a better option than Pitt despite the distance.
