New “guidance” announced yesterday for schools by king Andy. Fayette county schools had said before they weren’t going to follow new CDC recommendation of 5 day quarantines..instead they would keep 10 day quarantines. Well now king Andy has given his guidance to do 5 day quarantines if positive and no quarantines or contact tracing for at school exposures. So, Fayette county schools you are on the clock. The school board and administration of Fayette county schools always think they know better than any one else. I’m ready to see what they do now. Do they go against the kings new orders?

Shut all the public schools down again… definitely what’s best for the kids

I've been cautiously impressed with the new superintendent, tbh. It would be awfully easy for him to just follow Jefferson County and go back to NTI.
Eh, not if Fayette has the staff they need. These closures are because there are too many staff quarantined or out sick. You can't run a place without bus drivers, cafeteria workers, support staff, and teachers. You could have kids come, I guess, and shove them all in the auditorium all day (which some schools are doing in other parts of the country because of staffing shortages) but that's not really productive.

Remember also that schools only get 10 NTI days from the state, so Fayette and other districts also don't want to burn them for COVID reasons. If we get some bad winter storms over the next 9 weeks, then you are going to be in school for a while in June. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if some schools have to do that due to the latest surge + projected winter weather patterns.

The OP will appreciate the news that will be coming out soon.

Spoiler: still wearing masks, but that's what will keep us open.

Completely agree with the thoughts shared on the superintendent. It's clear he appreciates and understands the value of kids being in school. A friend of ours who is a principal here in Fayette County also has nothing but good things to say so far.

? I think the news you are talking about is his video message he sent last night? He said they will adopt the new andy guidelines starting next Tuesday.

Yeah, pretty much. I don't forsee any mass closings unless a whole bunch of teachers get sick.

-i think he has done really well to date. Seems like a strong/common sense kinda guy. The wording in communications he sends out is direct and substantive... refreshing change, tbh.
I agree that the communication and competence of superintendent seems to be much better than previous one. When they were conducting interviews for new superintendent, he was overwhelmingly the favorite by our Facebook group with over 3,000 involved Fayette county parents. But I still worry that he is influenced politically to a degree. I’m glad they are now going to follow CDC guidelines now but why did they wait untill andy said it’s ok. But I’m for sure willing to give him more time because he was definitely my first choice. Also I still strongly believe the school board needs a complete overhaul. A lot of politics going on there. Tyler Murphy and Stephanie Spires needs to be voted out this November.
