Health recommendations come out on Tuesdays for FCPS. It's coming .... probably.

Does anyone know how often this is updated?

I'm 100% on board with making masks optional now, but it seems they've hitched their wagon to these community transmission levels. Surely with the next update we get out of the red?

I have read where people proved that the numbers they are using are a week or two behind. I don’t think masks have protected anyone in school based on the high number of cases but using their flawed science of outdated numbers, we could be wearing mask when it’s “safe” and not wearing masks when it’s not “safe”.

I know I’m a broken record, but my disdain for FCPS burns with the heat of a thousand suns.

The uppermost administrative level (and I know almost all of them because of my former job) is staffed by complete morons. Even worse, they don’t honestly give a crap about above average and high achieving students. I mean NOT AT ALL.

If I were 20 years younger and had children of school age, I’d do everything in my power to keep them out of FCPS (with SOME exceptions)

I wish the the Lexington Herald Leader or other media would do a FCPS investigative report where Hyman reveals all his dirt 😁.

It looks like it updates on Thursdays. It's pretty ridiculous that it only updates once a week given how quickly counties are dropping out of the high level.

I'm admittedly just a rube that moved to the 'city' about a year ago, but in general I've been happy with FCPS so far given the circumstances. I'm very encouraged with the new superintendent and my kids' teachers and school admin has been great over the last year. Granted, my kids are only in Kindergarten and second grade, so perhaps my feelings will change as they get older.

I haven’t had any issues with my kids schools themselves. We are fortunately in a district with a good set of schools, that’s one thing that kept us from going to private schools during Covid. My issues lie with the school board and rest of the administration. Instead of just being a school system, their actions have proven to be very political. I’m a product of FCPS..but obviously like the rest of the world a lot has changed over the past 25 years.

Unfortunately this is the current state of education, and really society. We drag the top down rather than pull the bottom up.

Plus noone really cares in actual results or kids; just the appearance of results so they can justify their exorbitant salary and hire more cronies. Just look at Jefferson county for example. For decades, to achieve equality they bussed high achieving kids to low performing schools that way the scores looked more equal. They didn't care that high achievers suffered and low achievers didn't really improve.

I really don't get this impression at all at my kids' school. It's a shame if this is the case in places, but it's completely unfair to say 'no one' cares.

I'm talking about the administration positions. Thought that was clear. Teachers only follow orders, they don't make the high level policies like bussing. Most teachers do really care about the kids.

Administrators are a different story.

I mean, you literally said 'no one', so no, it wasn't clear.

I have a hard time believing anyone inside the buildings "doesn't care." Teaching in good times has to be a demanding job that takes a clear personality type. No chance I could do it. That being said, it's still a job like anyone else and we certainly saw a vocal minority being shitheads when it was beyond time to get kids back in the classroom. Planting tombstones with their names, protesting, saying "kids are resilient." Honestly, if you ever muttered those words you're a f*cking evil bastard.

The real blame is on the unions, CDC, school boards, governors, and local health departments for over complicating something that was really easy for most of the world and even a lot of the country. Unions, CDC and Governors though. That's were your real focus should be. Without their dumbass recommendations we wouldn't have this level of a crisis on our hands.

I suspect school board elections will be quite interesting across the country next cycle.

My hope is that they don't go too far off the deep end in the other direction. Going from the super-woke extreme far left to the Qanon type nut jobs I'm afraid we're going to see pop up won't do any good. Is it too much to ask to get a few normal folks on these boards?

I don't see that at all. I think it'll be actual concerned parents.

I enrolled my kids into private school instead of dealing with whatever stupid **** public schools have been and are still doing. Congrats on losing lots of successful, involved families that are able to afford private school but were planning on public schools.

Oh so Friday, because science. What a crock of ****.
CDC maps update on Thursdays. Again, I'm 100% ready to take the masks off, but I know the superintendent has to be sitting their with his fingers crossed hoping that map color changes Thursday so they can follow the guidance they've used recently. Not saying I agree, but I have to believe that's what's going on. You can argue (probably correctly) that the science is flawed in creating the categories to begin with, but by definition they are following the 'scientific' guidelines they said they were going to follow.

Keep in mind, they have made kids wear masks all year. Now in one breath, Liggins says, “We must keep wearing masks cause of high cases” then it’s “We can’t take the masks off because we might get high cases” when referencing other counties making masks optional.

No actual number can be given to say “this is enough. Now it’s over.” They just keep this nonsense going.

The idiocy of thinking someone else must wear a mask (despite not being sick) in order for your mask to work is prime idiocy.

A simple normal person with common sense is the antithesis of the ideological woke cult. Shouldn’t be too difficult to find someone that doesn’t want to mask kids, teach them that they’re racist, and about trannies in elementary school.

JCPS voted tonight to give Polio the ability to end masks. He indicated he would do that if the motion passed. So, seems like JCPS is set to end their mandate. FCPS is up.

Seriously this was part of FCPS email we just got. They are waiting for us to go from 203 to 199 😂😡😩

“The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention looks at total new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population in the past 7 days, new COVID-19 hospital admissions per 100,000 population in the past 7 days, and the percent of staffed inpatient beds occupied by COVID-19 patients to determine our community level. Our current numbers are:
  • Case numbers: 203
  • Hospital admissions: 19.1
  • Hospital occupancy rates: 8.6%

That data keeps Fayette County in the high risk category where schools are advised to continue layered prevention strategies including universal masking for all students and staff in schools and on buses.
If our case count were 199 or lower, our other measures would place us in the medium level where schools do not need to implement universal masking in schools or on buses. We're all waiting on pins and needles for the guidance to say it's safe to go mask optional for everyone who feels comfortable doing so.”

The idiocy that works in and runs education is so pathetic. It’s not surprising in the least that more and more parents are abandoning public school in favor of homeschooling and private school.

Liggins is yet another moron and this guy runs the district? 👌

“We are waiting on pins and needles for a bureaucrat to tell us if it’s safe to do what everyone does outside of school.” 😂 Idiots.

Maybe we should consult with these people to find out if this useless mask will suddenly be effective after two years. Oh, Liggins, can little Billy go to Target without a hazmat suit? I know the virus leaves us alone at restaurants and ball games and playing with others on weekends but certainly it will get us at school, right?!”

Tonight Louisville public schools have now gone mask optional. Fayette county is going to get the last place trophy they deserve. Maybe now they will give it up…nah let’s continue sitting on pins and needles! FCPS is a joke along with their board and other leadership!

^ Exhibit A for who I hope doesn't run for the school board.
