i always thought a great premise for a SciFi movie would be if our first intercepted message from an alien civilization were "Be quiet or else they'll hear you".
I know it might be difficult for someone of your intelligence to comprehend.....but imagine a world where everything you think you understand about the universe is actually so short sighted and ignorant that what you just said about limitations on communication is akin to a man believing the earth is flat?

Beautiful reply. Speed of light is the same throughout the universe. Intelligence isn't going to increase it.

Thinking like that doesn't make you smart. Being able to imagine something spectacular doesn't make you smart. Understanding your mental limitations requires much more intelligence than you will ever possess.

I think it is naive to think we are the only life, intelligent or otherwise. Going on a different tangent though, we are always a bit short-sighted in how we view life. We generally think of human-like creatures, or some advanced alien life. People are always looking for planets like Earth that could sustain life as we know it. But maybe there are some rock creatures out there. Or life forms that can live in the harsh conditions of a Venus or a Neptune? Maybe some creature has skin made of iron, and blood that is mercury. No telling what might be out there.
Scientists are eager to send a probe to the Jupiter moon, Europa. It's thought to be the most likely place in the solar system for extraterrestrial life. Beneath the thick ice on the surface is a vast ocean. They think there's more water there than on the Earth. Plus it's thought that there may be submerged volcanoes and the building blocks necessary for life.
Maybe there's already some form of life that has such a slow rate of "existence" that we can't detect it.
What if there are already aliens who eat human meat? Like the movie Predator but with the extraterrestrial equivalent of a Brazilian steakhouse.
