No longer a family business, supposedly....new owners are looking to expand and quality is already suffering. (supposedly because I've not been back recently...but based on comments from hometown friends.)

If something has worked for 80 years, why would you change it?

Isn't the Madisonville location it's own thing already, extended family or something?

Madisonville is staying the same. Hoptown is being sold.

GDit,,, sad day. I mean Ferrell's will never be the same. Snappy Service my ***, it will go to hell in a hand basket now. I know Phillip is the only one left, but its a damn staple of the community. I am seriously emotionally offended by this. To me, this is more a landmark than any Jefferson Davis monument etc,,,

Curious what an institution like that, albeit a small/simple dump, would sell for?

Good question. Hopefully it is someone who is buying it for the community factor, I mean can it really be THAT profitable ???

"Scott Harris, the new owner of our favorite burger joint. He lives in Madisonville."

Per Facebook.....which has on occasionally been incorrect. Occasionally.

Need to bring the one back to Henderson that used to stand on the corner of 2nd and Green across from the old Sunoco station on one corner and the Moose lodge on the other... circa 1983.

Fuster, time has escaped me. U r correct. I guess it has been more than 30 years, not 20!

Sorry, I missed your post above mine. You beat me to it. That was, by far, the biggest Ferrells I've ever been in.

Yeah, my old man worked as a diesel mech for Cummins in E'ville by day and was a service mech at that Sunoco station at night. I spent many an afternoon in that tiny Sunoco lobby sweat box doing homework and eating the junk out of the machines and wishing I could go across the street and get a burger.

At least you have Mr. B's. That place still crushing?
It's good, wings > pizza, not really my thing- eat there a few times/year with family, but they're always busy when I drive by. I think that's partially by default, though, due to the complete lack of decent restaurants in Hendo.

The Coughlin's sold the Mr. B's here in BG, the one in Henderson is still crushing. BG one does all right, but there is just too many options as opposed to Henderson, it does not stay packed like that one.

Man, back in the 80's we used to play poker every Friday night in the Dairy Queen the Coughlins owned. Fun times.

Ate there today. Proposing drive through.

I was only one in there with good lungs. Not anymore.

I worshiped that place.

Can't tell you how many times I sat with my grandfather at the counter eating burgers at lunch before we walked back over to the Moose. He ran it for 40+ years.

I was still very young when it closed, but I remember my mother having to console me. Huge childhood loss. Still not over it.

I hope they continue to let the same workers there keep their jobs. Rarely do I think of unwashed and open lesions as having charm but somehow they pull it off. They also have historically had the highest tolerance for the 2am crowd.
