My grandson, who attends UK, lives in an off campus house with six others. They all attended a birthday party the weekend of Dec.14. All but one was sick by midweek with all testing positive for Flu, Covid or both. It hit them hard. My grandson who is a healthy, fit 21 year old was still not feeling well on Christmas Day. Yesterday he appeared more like himself. Nasty cough that still lingers, sore throat and a marked lack of energy were his major symptoms. Went to student health, positive for Flu A and given Tamiflu on 15th. Wouldnot want team to get this bug.
Had a relative with that Flu A strain. Evidently the flu shot this year didn’t catch it. She sounded AWFUL. Gotta be honest, there are a ton of people that don’t do the needed things to boost their immune system, especially this time of the year. I would assume college kids are front and center of that list.

Yea, he had scheduled an appointment with his doc for Christmas break and had not had any vaccine. Might have lessened the severity. Ho got the shot late as Flu B also circulating and doc thought it might help.

Last time I had legit flu, I tested positive for B. Wife was preggers with our now 6 yr old. About 2-3 months if memory serves. Doc got super serious when I answered the question if anyone in the house was expecting. She sent me home with Tamaflu for her, orders for her to go get a vaccine, and orders for me to head to the basement for a week. Had I not been sick as a dog, it would’ve been the best week ever. 😂 I was an avid cross fitter back then and every time I worked out for about a month I coughed up the nastiest stuff ever. My HR would SOAR during workouts compared to normal. Assume it had to do with all the upper respiratory stress from the virus. Best advice I got was a doc I worked out with. Said to get Mucinex and take it as prescribed for a week. Said around 5-7 days in I’d start hacking stuff up and wouldn’t stop for about 10 mins. Then I’d be cleared. No truer words were ever spoken. It was a watershed of gunk and then I was clear. It was wild. Viruses are disgusting and the body is a crazy interesting thing to me.
