In the end...Tommy Tubberville at Cincy had to be equal or better from a recruiting standpoint than Fickell at CIncy. Maybe his youth will bring some early enthusiasm that sways certain kids...but I don't see Marrow/UK losing many battle to Cincy to be honest.

As might be expected, Cincinnati recruits a lot of their players in the greater Cincinnati area. As much as Kentucky has improved its recruiting profile in Ohio since 2013, the Cincinnati area still largely remains untapped for us. We have had very few Wildcats from Cincinnati in recent years. I expect Fickell to increase Cincinnati's recruiting traction in central and northern Ohio, but I don't think there will be many cases when Kentucky and Cincinnati are finalists for the same players. We are competing for Ohio players now with Michigan State, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, West Virginia, Pittsburgh. Not Cincinnati.

Hopefully we can flip some of OSU's defensive commitments.

Browning, Riep, Wade, Young, etc.

I grew up in Cincinnati. UC isn't the predominant school in the city. They may have 30% of the city as far as fans. The city is split between OSU, Notre Dame, UK, Xavier, Michigan, and a few other schools as well. I don't think UC will ever have a stronghold in the city. OSU and Notre Dame will always be bigger schools, so they'll have more success than UC. UC not being in a power 5 conference has to make it hard for their recruiting.

A lot like UofL in Louisville. More UK fans in Louisville, then UofL fans.

Similar, absolutely. I think it's actually harder for UC because UL isn't competing with multiple schools, just UK. Granted it's a competition they're losing. I just think UC has a slightly tougher challenge competing with at least 4 other big time schools, one of which is UK.

Let's see if we can make a trend line of coaches at Ohio State.

2009 Jim Tressel goes 11-2
2010 Jim Tressel goes 12-1
2011 Luke Fickell goes 6-7
2012 Urban Meyer goes 12-0
2013 Urban Meyer goes 12-2

I ain't too scared of Fickell making any significant waves at Cincinnati.

Fickell will do well at Cincy. He won't beat OSU or UM or ND for recruits. He will be able to fight for the next level. He has extremely strong ties to ohio. He spent nearly his entire life/career in Ohio and is well liked by hs coaches. He will go after many of the same recruits UK goes after. I dont think he will heavily impact UK but don't be surprised if he wins a few head to head recruiting battles with UK in the future.

100% correct. I grew up in Dayton. All of southern Ohio is odd from an fan standpoint. Michigan, OSU, UK....but very few Cincy fans.

Strange hire for UC though, for the most part defensive guys tend to only do well at big schools with deep recruiting and loads of prestige.

He won't be working with much defensive talent at UC. Recruiting makes a much bigger impact on defense than offense. You can scheme your way to a great offense without much talent. Very very hard to do that on the defensive side of the ball.

Figured they would hire a offensive guy.

I'm just glad they left Eddie Gran alone.

I forgot about UD as well, although some UD fans may root for UC in football. UC had the stretch with Tony Pike where they went to a BCS bowl. They had some energy around the program at that time. Other than that, I don't remember UC fans ever being excited about the football. I'm speaking as a whole, of course. You're certainly going to have a handful of fans here and there that are excited for football, but it's not a lot.

Another thing going against Fickell is that fans of Cincinnati teams expect to lose, and generally in the most heartbreaking way possible. The city hasn't a success postseason team for quite some time. Imagine if all your sports teams have similar luck in big games than UK does. They constantly wait for something bad to happen. I'm sure that will be a hard culture to turn around as well.

Why doesn't UK recruit in Cincy?
GAA, Edwards, Mahone, Meadows, Ross; Dayton area: Beckham, Hart, Looney,; Between: Rigg.

Then there's all the ones we miss on, mainly to OSU.

How many more do you expect?

LV: Walker

Two are directly from Cincy. Edwards is a very good player and Mahone. Dayton is not Cincy proper nor is West Chester. I understand we recruit all Ohio but in Cincy not as much.
