Kraft does not strike me as stupid. Selecting Terry over any candidate will simply breathe life into the Paterno cancer eating at the core of this program. This division needs to be healed and that is done by a hard reset. Clean house.

For the record, I thought Paterno was an excellent coach for much of his life. His ghost, however, does not win football games.
To the contrary, I submit that someone who publicly says Franklin was fired for not winning Big and National Championships instead of simply it was time to move on and that the fans “deserve” a Natty strikes me as an amateur.

The question for me would be why did they strike out assuming he did. If it was solely on money then Kraft isn't on the hot seat as much. That is on the administration to pay up. He got the top choice(s) ready to commit to PSU and the admin wouldn't pony up the money to match other offers that is not on Kraft as much.
I doubt money is the issue here.

Assuming we've all been "had," I chose "mystery man" who is none other than Urban Meyer, with Hartline as OC/Coach in waiting. Otherwise, DeBoer and possibly Freeman. Chesney would be OK, but I think it'd be a huge risk for Kraft. If Chesney flames out, it'll be double firings next time around with Chesney and Kraft going out together.

The next coach is currently coaching a program whose season ends this weekend otherwise Terry, Daboll, Fitzgerald would have been announced. Deboer is making the playoffs as is Chesney. This weekends results are the final countdown. Need someone by 12/2. Suspect it’s someone not frequently mentioned over the last month.

Chesney is now down to 38 percent but still with the comfortable lead over Smith at 16, and mystery man at 13.

JMU is in their conference championship game but probably not making the playoffs. They need lots of help including an SMU or Virginia loss, neither of which is likely to happen.

I should have included Lincoln Riley. He may in fact be mystery man candidate here at the 11th hour.

I voted Mystery Man, and that is..... Matt Patricia. Yes, he didn't do well as the Detroit Lions head coach. That was then, this is now. The now is that CFB is now professional football. A new model is needed in how we view the head coach and overall structure we need. Hiring Chesney or another college coach is not keeping pace. PSU can get ahead of it by hiring a GM to manage the portal and NIL negotiations, in tandem with a head coach who has experience in managing professional players. He also has performed stunningly well as the Ohio State DC.

Franklin was untrustworthy. He got away with Barbour who didn't utter a peep when he (via agent) went directly to the board. Not so with Kraft. One other thing. The luster had worn off from JF. There were no longer annual rumors about so and so being interested., so he sought his fortune through extensions and his last attempt at an end around to the board did him in. Trust was lost and Franklin became a gone Johnson exacerbated by the on field performance
