I will be the first to start this thread.

In the thread, "Looks like a team", @IFerg1969 said, "I feel like my enjoyment level for the upcoming season will be more so than in recent years."

I agree with that statement big-time, which is unfortunate. Honestly, I had become so apathetic over the last couple of years that I had stopped watching the games. As a result, I gained 4-5 hours a week and was WAY more productive in my life.

Now, Pope has me really excited to watch, which means I will be losing time/sleep with late tip-offs, etc. And it's not just the games, he's really engaging with his interviews, so I have to watch those as well. I was finally kicking my addiction w/ watching UK sports, and now Pope has ruined it... I mean, I certainly shouldn't have to take responsibility for my own lack of self-control 🤣

CURSE YOU, MARK POPE!!!

I was really disappointed that we were out rebounded on the offensive glass. I knew it was to good to be true, this team is Hot Garbage!!! šŸ˜‚
I was really impressed with how much they pass the ball for a better shot, I believe this team will win and win big this year.

Long rebounds will get everybody, you can have inside position and block your man out perfect, and it can happen a lot. He's overjoyed about how they played last night, but coaches are always in teaching mode, that just happened to be a stat they lost, but he would take that every game if it turned out like it did last night. He said all of that with a big grin on his face. What about that shooting last night, they all looked good and one of our best didn't even play!

lol I’m pretty sure OP was being sarcastic

I'm pretty sure the response was sarcastic, too.

90% of my original post was absolutely true...
  • I had become apathetic and missed most games resulting in my being more productive elsewhere in life
  • Pope's enthusiasm and this team's performance last night has me excited
  • I'm certainly going to lose time elsewhere b/c of Pope, so... CURSE YOU, COACH POPE!!

However, the firing part b/c of those things may have been just a touch sarcastic...just a touch

He’s only coached one game, and he won’t it! Let’s wait until he loses his first game, and then we can start calling for his job, fair enough?
I do not think he won't it, I believe the players won't it. Maybe he and the players WON it. Now that I think of it, neither coach or players won't it last night.

I fully understand how you feel. What a refreshing team we witnessed last night and how about Pope's comments after the game? Real basketball explanations without the ******** we have had to endure over the past years. And like you, I had pretty much stopped listening to the former coaches' comments after the games by reading some much later in the various print media covering the Cats.

I am excited for the season, Wednesday was a blast and hopefully this coming Tuesday will be more of the same. I will say we will not know till we are in the season more but just style of play, effort and such is tons better. KENTUCKY BASKETBALL was a blast under Rupp, Hall it was more workman like and not as fun (even championship year was great but was not the same feel), Sutton again some good and some bad but play was not a fun, Rick P, we had the fun back in UK, Tubby still fun early on and then the life was sucked out of it, BCG was like a user on LSD trying to figure out was was real and not and at the end it was hard to even say UK without flashbacks. Then we get to CAL 5 years of fun, 10 years of dread (each season high hopes and then it crashed down (minus the 38-0 year)). Finally we get back to fun. Enjoy the ride folks. Hopefully we have way more ups than downs over the next 15 years or so. Probably be my last 15 on this rock and would love to have a good streak of awesome teams.

Coach Pope is as much of a fan of UK as any of us...maybe more than most. He runs a "Gamblers Mentality" of an offense that proves to be more reward than loss, with tons of fast passing and shooting. That said, it is a gamble to an extent, but so much fun to watch. There will certainly be losses, as we are mostly 3/4-star talent. But given the experience, we should play like 5 stars. We will NOT lose games for lack of shooting and hustle.
