Fire pits.

We bought a swing for our patio about a month ago. Decided we needed a fire pit to enjoy it on cool nights. It came yesterday and I'll put it together today. Do any of you have one and how often do you use it?

Did you get a solo stove or another smokeless equivalent? If not, take the one you got back and get one.

I used to use mine all the time. Not as much lately with two small kids, and we just moved to a house that has two outdoor fireplaces so I’ll be using those primarily going forward.

If you’re looking for warmth, the heat deflector for a solo stove is a necessity. The stove itself doesn’t let off a lot of radiant heat. But not smelling like a campfire every weeknight you want to have a fire will greatly increase the frequency you want to have fires.

I have one of those big square ones with the glass rocks. We rarely use it.

We have a Solo. we typically use it a lot in the fall, winter, spring. not so much in the summer when it is hot.

It's a lot of fun to just sit around or to use it to cook.

It's really easy to start. I use the paper from my shredder as a kindling, usually takes one match.

I might need to get a solo. I’ve got an old rusted out fire pit on my patio that I need to dispose of. I also have a propane table with glass rocks on our screened in porch, which I’ve enjoyed.

I've got a monster gas firepit. Had big plans. Has Carolina blue glass in it......

Probably used in ten times in 15 years.... wish I had the space back and just had chairs around a solo......

No, we looked at the solos but passed. Got a small wood burning pit from Home Depot. May regret it, bit decided on the cheaper model so we could see if, 1- we'd use it enough and 2- if it fit our needs. If we do use it enough, I'll get a solo.

Regardless of your heat source, be sure you have something heat resistant under your pit if it sits close to the wood decking.

That’s another reason you should get a Solo. You don’t need anything beneath it except the ring that comes with it. You can set it in the grass and the next day move it and you wouldn’t even know you had a fire there.

I set a deck on fire one time with the radiant heat from a cheap metal chimenea from Wal-mart. That thing could get to like 1300 degrees. It caught a 4x4 post on fire from 18 inches away.

Based on this thread, I got a Solo Mesa XL last weekend. It's a tabletop, and was really fun to use. I used pellets, but am going to try real wood next time.

Just did this for the wife. It’s official, I’m a GD suburbanite now. I put it off and off until it was decided we were hosting Thanksgiving this year.
