Fire Pope (Part 39 I think)

So, quick question for all the Pope haters...Rick Pitino, in my opinion, is one of the 5 best coaches in college basketball history. Now, Pope should be fired for 8-4, with a win over Saint Johns...so does that mean a preseason top 5 SJU team that is 7-4 with a double digit loss to UK should result in Pitino getting the ax? Cause I kinda think he couldn't. Please, all the fire Pope crowd, feel free to chime in
Not a "Pope hater." (that's a juvenile take). My comments still stand. We were fortunate to have JQ AND Lowe come back out and have a great game. Good win for us, but the fact that we have fans coming on here and talking **** to other fans because we beat Saint John's, shows where we are as a program right now. Beating st John's (pitino coaching or not) should be EXPECTED. We looked like the Washington Generals the first half. The fundamentals of this team are still very bad. Hopefully we can continue to improve, but Pope which I like has done a very questionable job to this point in the season.

I’m sick of coach cultists. The bleeding heart types. Are going to ruin UK. The lower bowl, just glad they’re having fun out there types. Like the booster who said Popr is doing good. It’s nothing but nostalgia. I read the IU board when Woodson was there. It’s the same BS. “Woodson knows what it takes, he played under RMK”.
Hahahahaha

I gave up on this season quite a while ago. Why?
- we can’t shoot, at all
- we can’t pass
- we can’t dribble
- we turn the ball over a lot
- we don’t know how to screen
- we don’t know how to run anything on O
- we are soft
- we are less talented than most D1 teams

Really, it’s just obvious that this season is lost and we have to start wondering out loud if Mark should be here.
Hahahahahahahahahaha

Pope pulled off a convincing win on the backs of JQ and Lowe. I’m happy, but it shows the importance of getting elite players. If Poe wants to stick around, he’s gotta recruit better. If it’s JMI, step up and get it changed.
Umm, your 180 logic is confusing. Didn't pope recruit the guys that led us to the win? Partly. Then you take another dig suggesting he won't recruit enough big time talent.

Except Pope has been whiffing on a number of players that could be JQ level, players that would make his teams elite.

He has to change how he approaches recruiting, either it’s the JMI stuff, which he’ll need to demand change or he’s refusing to get into bidding wars despite having a lot of money to work with, which he needs to stop.

Pope is a very smart dude, hopefully he’s capable of self-reflection to make changes if he can coach himself out of this quandary we’re in.

Hoping for a massive turn around. But this isn’t Kentucky and when I look at recruiting it doesn’t look like it’s going to be. I’m calling for a change at the end of the season and we need a new AD as well. This is okay at Tennessee or Vandy, it’s not okay here. Under any circumstances it doesn’t matter.

This middlin nonsense and losing to every team with a pulse is a fireable offense here and always will be.
I’m so happy we again turned it around and played a great second half but why can’t a Pope coached team play two halves of good basketball ever? Why do we always start out with a terrible first half in a hole?

I think our recruiting has been hurt by the JMI contract and he’s never had a full team on deck with stars. Who knows what he could do with say the 2012 team, they might beat teams worse than Calipari did. I don’t know. I do know we’re not where we need to be and hopefully we can hold serve to the final four this year and win the SEC. I don’t personally think we can, but I’m not a fortune teller either. JQ is definitely making the team ooze confidence. So how good can they be? I don’t know.

But it sucks when you realize regardless this JMI contract isn’t going anywhere and Barnhart will extend Mark for just making the tournament. Our standards have been lowered. It’s concerning.

Yea, some folks want the Cats to lose so they can bang the “fire Pope” drum louder. No one is saying the Cats should treat this like they won a trophy, but after the way the season started everyone should be happy that 1) we beat IU and St John’s and 2) JQ and Lowe both played. The second half showed what this team can be when healthy. Yes, Pope should have a second PG and that’s on him, but if we can stay healthy this is a MUCH diff team than the one that got blown out by Gonzaga.

If you’re annoyed that people are happy about this game, then you may be the “bad fan”, not the ones cheering.

Yeah man, its so hypocritical and indicative of how thin skinned they are. They can be absolutely brutal to Pope, the team, oh, and "Pope ball washers" who don't want to fire him, but use their own comments against them when we win and its tears and cries for mods. Priceless comedy

Long time Troll. Dude go back and look at your posts at the start of this thread.
Uhm, go back read it to me and explain what I'm wrong about. I think you have me confused with the OP. It's not that hard to copy and paste. The ONLY one acting like a troll here is you.
This is why I loath coming over to rafters anymore. It's like walking into a scene from idiocracy. Just juvenile obnoxiousness.

Exactly my issue. We are going to have to evaluate and crush the portal every year somehow with this JMI nonsense.

Here’s the real deal. We have all been concerned with this team early this year. And games like MSU and especially Gonzaga the toughness and will to win I saw were disturbing. But Pope and the team went to work, committed to defense and the past 2 games have been very encouraging. This team I think is different personnel wise than any Pope has ever had. But I’m gonna give him huge credit so far for realizing that and playing to these guys strengths. Pope can coach. God willing if we can stay healthy, this team is gonna be special defensively.
