I'll never understand taking the contrarian view on everything. To me, Whitlock comes off like a miserable bastard obsessed with whatever the "Alphabet Mafia" is. He's looking for a villain where there isn't one.

What rudd1 said is absolutely true on the subject. Dude did a quick video on social media and donated some coin as well. Good for him. I'm sure others are going to feel comfortable enough to do the same down the road too.
Whitlock is one of the best out there. Some folks just can't handle a opposite view that doesn't go along with the mainstream.

Just not sure what the point of the article is. He's assuming Nassib has ulterior motives; that he's now untouchable and protected by again, this Alphabet Mafia he keeps bringing up, while also playing 3D chess. Whitlock wants you to know he's not impressed by the announcement by writing an article about the announcement. I dunno, just comes off as condescending to me, but whatever. Wished he could have interviewed Nassib and asked why now instead of assuming he's playing some mystical game of gay chess with the Alphabet Mafia.

Regardless, I'm happy for him. If his announcement helps others, that's great. I mean, it can't hurt.

If you can't understand how coming out can be liberating and inspirational to others in the same position (especially with public figures), you're either being obtuse or homophobic.

It's definitely liberating but the ultimate goal is to have "coming out" even be a thing.

I honestly think society is pretty close but based on my gay friends, coming out to their families is the hardest part for most.

YOu really don't think folks could do things like that for their own self interest? Why?
You don't think there's an overwhelming sentiment in the media and in this country on behalf of the gay community?
WHo is being disenguious now?

Most definitely some could have their own self interest in mind, but it's a bit unfair to immediately attach that to Nassib. Seems as though he wanted to make a quick video and be done with it and move forward. As others have said, it becomes a TMZ thing that's out of his control if he says nothing and is shown on their site kissing or holding hands with another man. Then you'd have one side wanting him to make some sort of statement and another saying to leave the guy alone. With this quick video, he has control, he feels support, and perhaps helps others to come out. Positives all around. There's just a condescending tone to Whitlock's article, if you disagree, that's cool. Just my take on it.

As for the overwhelming sentiment in the media and in this country on behalf of the gay community, that's a good thing, right?

Why NFL’s Carl Nassib is sports’ most significant ‘first’ since Jackie Robinson in 1947 | Opinion

Carl Nassib is the new Jackie Robinson.

We shall see over time if that statement proves to be hyperbole, but in the moment this week, it felt that big — that much a landmark. And it felt that necessary. That overdue.

It was a matter of time, but the when and the who are always a mystery until they are not. Until somebody is first,

I don't care what he does. Don't care at all.
Discrimination in any form is wrong, but if an athlete or actor takes a Christian stance, where is the sentiment for them and their life.
You saying they are treated the same as this guy?

I don't know what celebrities have taken Christian stances or what those stances are. If you're thinking of Tebow, he was mocked for being a virgin more than anything else, and that was done by other guys on the internet. I think what it comes down to is this: you disagree with the gay lifestyle and you think there's something wrong when so many praise a man for admitting his "sin", while mocking a guy like Tebow as if he's the loser Brady Bunch kid. I'm not crushing you for that, but you seem like someone who doesn't want to be reminded that there's gay people in the world or that it's Pride month and that every little station logo on your tv screen is rainbow colored for June. You have your beliefs and that's fine, but I think that's why you randomly brought up the Christian thing, which has nothing to do with Nassib. No, I don't think you hate gays or anything like that. I just think you might be the type that has said "something is wrong in this country when a guy proudly announces he's gay and everyone rallies around him...that doesn't sit well with me." Or I'm completely wrong, who's to say.

The Whitlock article makes a bit more sense after seeing catlanta's link. No, Nassib isn't Jackie Robinson, but that's one guy's opinion and Whitlock has his too.

As I said, I don't care. You are coyly pretending there's not a difference in how folks lifestyles and beliefs are defended in the mainstream.
Whitlock says Nassib likely did it for self preservation on an NFL roster. I find that highly plausible given how folks are canceled and drug for not going along with the gay community. Any opposition to them is met with harrassment and persecution.
If you are saying it isn't. I doubt your sincerity in this whole discussion. Drew Brees was canceled like a bad Broadway show for saying he believed people should stand for the anthem. Yep, for that.
You keep hinting that you think me some hater that wants to bash the gay community. I do not. I just know there is not equal treatment for people who disagree with or have different views and opinions on the matter.
VP pence was mocked mercilessly because he didn't want to go to dinners without his wife. Name called, labeled. Maybe you defended him, maybe you joined in.
My point is, the gay community is as protected as the Blad Eagle and you know it. You are just trying to label me something because I see things different.
YOu don't like Whitlock's article because you don't think he;s right or because you don't like that someone didn't want to build a statue in honor of Nassib. Group think is dangerous.

As I predicted, you have to fit their narrative or get canceled. They claim tolerance and inclusiveness, in actuality, you can't have any opinion contrary to theirs and be part of their club.

I assume you are speaking of the gay community here? I hate takes like this and it happens all the time by all sides. So the author of the article finds a few people who aren’t happy about it on Twitter and then it is taken as the entire gay community is now against the guy and he is canceled ?? I can find thousands of examples of people w really bad takes but I don’t think we should equate one opinion w an entire group. Should I assume all Republicans are crazy Qanoners?

Brees shouldn't have backed down. I'm not sure he was really cancelled though. People like to say you're cancelled if you get crapped on for a day on twitter. He didn't deserve the backlash but it's not like he was ran out of the league because of it. Still, I can't defend the reaction, it was ridiculous.

I honestly don't think you're a hater or some gay basher. Far from it. If you feel I'm labeling you as such, I apologize. I do think some have been met with backlash if they don't agree with say, same-sex marriage, only because we're in the 2020's and it's been widely accepted. Same can be said for weed and sports gambling. The Govt. will eventually just make both (weed, gambling) allowable across the country, because some states need to be dragged into the future. Just the way it is. In 20 years, the national consensus is going to be, "can you believe there was ever a debate on same-sex marriage?" I still recall Bill O'Reilly arguing against it because Sweden allowed it and for whatever reason they had an uptick in crime afterward, as if gays being allowed to marry caused mass violence and crime.

Pence was mocked because that is a little odd and he's a politician. Every politician gets mocked. He's robotic and stiff. Gore was too and was mocked as well. I don't know about "mercilessly" though. Were there jokes about Pence? Yes. But supporters of the former POTUS have been screaming for his head and yelling the word "traitor" at him for months. That's showing no mercy. Guy somehow managed to make both sides hate his guts and now his political future is dead.

Is the gay community protected as you say? I don't know because I'm not even sure what that means exactly. The best evidence you have might be after it was known what a POS Kevin Spacey was, he immediately admitted to being gay, as if he assumed he'd be forgiven.

As for Whitlock, as I said, the article makes a bit more sense now that I realize he seemed to be responding to someone labeling Nassib as the new Jackie Robinson. Quite a leap to assume I'm disappointed there isn't going to be a statue built for Nassib though. The only statue I'm in favor of is one of RoboCop.

Brees wife even apologized. He was villified like he had used a racial slur because of the BLM movement. He was neutered and he thanked them for neutering him.
Kaepernick was labeled a hero for his anti cop stance and his kneeling. Brees a villain for his stance. Come on, you know what's up.
The baker out west has been sued multiple times for not wanting to make a cake for a gay couple. You think that was just coincidence that gay couples kept going there and making him take a stance. He was portrayed as a bigot because he didn't agree with gay marriage.
People came all the way from CA to Rowan Co a few years ago to file for marriage licenses when word got out that the clerk there didn't want to issue because of her beliefs. Mainstream went crazy on her and they kept on until she was imprisoned. It was all because she had a different view.
There is no tolerance by them if you don't accept their way. They will not stop until you are ruined. I know you know this but are acting as if you don't for some reason.
I truly don't care how they live, but it's not enough for them to live their lives, they become furious and want you to be punished if you don't accpet their way.
It's becomeing that way now with the transgender stuff. If you don't agree with it, you're a bigot and they will come after you for not accepting it.

The shitflogging Jackie Robinson endured blows Nassib out of the water.

Happy for Nassib, but he had it 💯 easier than 42

If you're not a liberal, they don't care
They aren't even really gay. Pete Buttigieg is left and he was criticized by ***** academics as not being gay. Here's a quote from Greta LaFleur, a professor of American studies at Yale about a picture of Pete and his husband:

“This photo is about a lot of things, but one of its defining features is its heterosexuality. It’s offering us the promise that our first gay first family might actually be a straight one.”

A gay person must not merely be attracted to men to fit the category. They must have an upbringing consistent with ***** experiences and exude ***** culture. And further, to be a proper gay, one must adopt the current progressive politics. So not only do they need to display their gay cultural identity as defined by professors in "studies" fields, but they must also "Yasss queen" when Greta Thurnberg burns someone on twitter.
