The last thing UK needs is another raving lunatic like Cal who screams like a madman. But even in Popes postgame presser he seems way too nice and passive. He said it was a good night. Now I’m sure practice will be another story, but I hope he ultimately can offer tough love and harsh criticism when needed. Different ways to motivate, just hope Pope is demanding and holds folks accountable.
I don’t believe that coaches need to put players on blast in public, but one of my very few concerns with CMP is whether he’s too close to his players. There’s a reason bosses don’t typically socialize with their subordinates, and officers don’t fraternize with enlisted… it puts good order and effectiveness at risk, especially when tough discipline has to be handed out and tough decisions have to be made.

I’m not saying it’s a problem, but if or when, the team runs into some adversity or unrest in the locker room, the coach can’t be everyone’s buddy

Team just lost focus after getting up 17-0 giving Colgate confidence in the process.

The most disturbing part for me is that it was Pope’s substitution patterns after the 17-0 start that caused this to be a close game.

Perry, Chandler, and Almanor were killing us. Carr and Williams had success down low, and he had them on the bench. I’m all for subbing when you’re up 17-0, but you have to recognize when the other team is making a run and adjust appropriately.
I think the coaching staff is full but maybe you can call in to the postgame radio program. Clearly Pope needs your advice and coaching knowledge which far exceeds his.

Maybe you didn’t notice our two pgs are out and this game is sandwiched between one on the other side of the country that went to ot and the other is against a local community college down by the river.

When you call in, remind them to put Ritchie in.

As I said in the game thread, we did learn something valuable tonight - Chandler and Perry are unplayable in SEC play.

The rotation will have to be:

Butler
Robinson
Oweh
Carr
Williams

Brea
Garrison
Almanor

Then I’d give Noah the nod after those 8.
I again suggest you phone in and hopefully the coaching staff will get to hear all about what you would do and they will take it and run with it. Your vast knowledge will be the key for this team’s success. Call now please. If busy, keep trying.

It’s half asked. You were asked to do a job and you did half of what was asked. What would half assed mean?

It means little to no care. Not working for something.
They got up 17-0 thought they could just coast by on talent. Started getting serious and they turned it back on.

Not the best case scenario but not the sky is falling either. It happens all the time to every team out there.

I'm ok with having an off game. It happens, especially given the circumstances. What concerns me is how poorly we shoot the ball on a regular basis. Shooting was the last thing I thought would be a weakness for this team. It just doesn't make sense to me.

As important as not having our best 2 point guards, we have to move Robinson from the 2. We replace him with Brea at the 2. Brea is not nearly as quick and active as Robinson, thus slowing our offensive flow. Defensively Robinson lacks the quickness to guard the point and Brea lacks the quickness to guard a 2. This caused all kinds of problems tonight. I also feel Carr is much more effective offensively with Robinson at the 2 because of better spacing. We MUST have Butler back by conference play. He is the glue for this team.

Sounds almost as if you’re asking for a dose of Bob Knight or Nick Saban. Not sure any of that flies anymore in the NIL era?

I think we are a pretty good team.
We are not an excellent team.
I think we end up with 10 losses on the year:
11-7 SEC
1 SEC Tournament
1 NCAA Tournament.
This assumes we beat Louisville on Saturday and Ohio State in NYC ....
10 losses is a pretty good year, especially with the SEC so damn tough this year.

We lost 11 games last year ... fwiw
I think that’s a pretty realistic take. I see the same thing. Most of the SEC competition is going to be better than UK.

I've been watching college teams lose or make it close against teams that have no business in their gym every season since I started watching basketball.

I also just watched this team go into Seattle and beat Gonzaga literally days ago.

We'll be fine.

Well if that's true then UK is not making the tournament lol.
I think UK is better than most SEC teams.

We looked a little rough with both point guards out.

Stop the presses.
Headline! Tennessee looks bad without Ziegler, Duke struggles without Proctor, and Alabama looks worse without Sears! Every team would struggle especially when their backup is out too.

Bunch of butthurt pussies crying because Kentucky didn't cover the damn spread. They're kids, not machines.

Lots of things to be happy about, but you all crybabies get pissed because we win by 11.

1. We are the #5 Team in the country
2. Win over #6 Duke (Cal was 1-3 against Duke) ---> Pope is 1-0
3. Win over #7 Gonzaga (Cal was 0-2 against the Zags) ---> Pope is 1-0
4. Projected #2 Seed in the Tournament
4. One of the favorites to win a Natty

Slightly disturbing trend last 3 games. Subpar 40 minutes at Clemson. Terrible 1st 20 minutes vs Gonzaga. Painful 40 minutes against Colgate. Louisville is solid this year. Cats need steady solid 40 to beat them
Troll alert

We are in top 5
Just beat Gonzaga
Cal hasn't sniffed these accomplishments in years and never tbh.

I’d love to know how many times we gave up a layout by getting blown by off the dribble. It was happening consistently in the second half.
