I'm hearing that a certain school on what used to be Crawford, north of a cemetery and south of a pizza joint ... had 60 on varsity, 40 sophs and 60 frosh.

Also, another school named after the man who warned us of the military industrial complex had double the number of freshman they normally do.

NNFan,

Over here in PA we started Heat Acclimatization Monday and there were 157 Varsity and JV players. Cuts will start next week on the way to an 85 man Varsity/JV roster. The freshmen had about 100 show up Monday evening for throw around with an expected final team of about 65. Total School enrollment is about 1800.

Those are amazing numbers... far better than most schools in Pennsylvania. Wilson (West Lawn) has great tradition so I'm not surprised they have good numbers, but that is unbelievable. One thing about PA high schools... there are few with more than 2,000 students, so West Lawn Wilson is in the largest class. Pennsylvania expands to six classes this year (only four classes prior).

NNFan,

Yeah I'm a grad so a bit familiar with the program. This change to 6 classes from 4 irks a bunch of us for sure. This season 96 teams are playing in 6A. The class is determined by male enrollment or election to play up. 6A male enrollment runs from 564-1770 with Wilson checking in at 795 so in the middle to the smaller side by comparison to the bigger city schools. There are always some guys that come out and last a few days, others make it to cuts. Even when they get cut, they continue to come back the next year and after a year or two in the elective gym program they normally make it on the team and learn so many life lessons along the way about being dedicated in the face of adversity. I know a lot of folks don't feel cutting is acceptable in today's world, but I feel if we had more approaches like this we wouldn't continue to produce kids that whine about every little thing.

Give or take at each level; 40 freshmen, 65 sophomores, and 65 varsity. Low freshmen numbers, lowest since I have been there. But freshmen level has the right combination of players to make a good team. Lower levels will mesh well for varsity in a few years.

I heard 30 sophs and 50 frosh at Mt. Carmel. Additionally, it was reported that one scheduling coordinator warned his group of officials of possible lower level cancellations of games even though the refs have been assigned.

Hate to hear that if that's total for program.

For now it is, school is starting now, so they should pick up a few more. I'm just happy they're fielding a team this year. Lotta great kids at Guerin and they deserve to play. Wins and losses don't matter to me this fall. Fight hard for 9 weeks and give it everything they've got!

Hard to believe these #s @Mount Carmel when in 2007 they had 125 Fr, 62 So, and 74 varsity.
