I’ll get this out of the way first... North wins big.

600+ Mile round trip. Brutal.

Does the NCHSAA have a provision to assist teams that have to travel this far for a playoff game? Meal money? Hotel supplement?

In my experience, this game will be lightly attended. Not only because of distance for the visitor, but because many of North’s fans will probably stay home in anticipation of a big win (especially of the rain returns)

All that being said, I’d love to hear from people who have experienced travel like this.

To any First Flight fans that might be reading, if you’re coming up for the game, I know that there are many North Davidson families that would be happy to offer some hospitality. Chime in!

My school is South Columbus in Tabor City, NC and we often get sent West in the brackets. Basically the South Carolina border and next to the beach. Our community and booster club certainly do the heavy lifting in these situations.

I feel for FF as far as the travel, to ask those kids to ride that far, then be 100% mentally ready for a football game is quite a bit to expect! It is the playoffs, and I am sure they will be prepared. Other than a few highlights seen on hudl, I don't know much about them. Any fans, or conference foes got any insight?

I think I read that the NCHSAA will pay for lodging if a team is required to stay overnight, which I thinkFirst Flight should do traveling so far. If they make the trip back home after the game, that would put them getting back home sometime very early Saturday morning.

Everything comes from the school. ND will have to pay for lodging if they stay

The game is at North Davidson. If they choose to stay, First Flight would have to pay for it. They get half of the gate after expenses.

It’d be cheaper to charter a bus than to get 20 hotel rooms.

Eastern Randolph went to First Flight in first round of baseball playoffs a couple of years ago.

On a TUESDAY!!!

And yes got back home in wee hours of Wednesday morning. Parents of FF very nice down to earth people. Even fed boys and parents of visitors after game.

But dang that's a ride.

Here is what I found in an old (2017) handbook. The current year’s handbook is password protected. (Duh)

1st - 3rd round football specific.

Over 150 Miles one way:

Meals: $6 x 45 = $270
.75 per mile for mileage
Motel: $8 x 45 = $360

There are additional allowable reimbursements for round trips over 300 Miles. Don’t know what they are though, as the handbook says that you need to call the NCHSAA for more details.

I went out that way to meet up with a chick in Elizabeth city about 4 years ago,I took HWY 158 the scenic route, right along the VA/NC border ,went through the dismal swamp,at night time and let me tell you what all I seen was eye shine all the way through and huge bugs splattering my windshield, you sure don't want to break down going through that place...then went to the outer banks( kill devil hills) beautiful place but to dang hot,it was like I was in the desert, played in a softball tournament there, seen first flight HS,very nice school, but it is a haul that's for dang sure

I'm a Northeastern fan and a Avid poster up here on the northeastern threads. First Flight kids are great, they are not the most talented but they never give up. I can assure you that you will not play a team like this very often. They are Scrappy and they do not like to lose, but your team should win easily. If you were playing them in soccer then you would have no chance, they are building a dynasty they're on the Outer Banks

I don’t think Cummings belongs in the same stadium as St Pauls. I think that’s who North Davidson will play in round 2.
Reidsville beat Cummings 60-0 on friday nite...could've been worse.....Cavaliers should fall quickly in first round even if they do play at home.....................

in 2000...Reidsville in 3 straight weeks of playoffs traveled to Tarboro (Reidsville win).......Edenton Holmes (Reidsville win) and SW Onslow (a loss)....easily topping the 1,000 mile round trip travel in that 3 week period....Personally went to all 3 and had a good time....(except the ride back from SW Onslow...lol)............

St. Paul’s is usually overrated game maybe closer than what people think. St. Paul’s will win though

Who overrates St. Pauls? They are the same team every year it seems like. They finish 4th-5th in our conference, win 6-9 games and at best make it to the 2nd round.

First Flight is a hike. I'm from Clinton in the southeastern part of the state. We played their last year our soccer team and football playoff teams. Our soccer team plays there for the eastern championship Tuesday. FF's 4 hours away! 4 hours or more riding on a bus and getting off the bus to play is fatiguing.

That 1st Rd playoff game yall played there last year was crazy. It was so cold and the wind was blowing like 45 mph. I regretted going to that game but I wanted to see how good you guys. I knew barring an unexpected upset that yall would be coming to Elizabeth City the following Friday.

First round blowout... Who do you think we play in round two?

The one thing I've learned about watching a lot of playoff football over the years, is "W's" are never a given. I remember back in the late 90's (1997?) when Thomasville was in 1-A and I believe was the #1 ranked 1-A team in the state at the start of the playoffs. A little ol' school up in the mountains (Rosman) had already beaten a very good Albemarle team in Albemarle in a game EVERYBODY predicted the Blue Dogs to win. The next week Rosman shows up at Cushwa Stadium in T-ville with NOBODY giving them a snowball's chance in Hades of winning. I was at the game, and Rosman ran the ball right down T-ville's throat all night long and went on to win the game.

I also remember just a few seasons ago when Randleman made the trip to Reidsville in a game EVERYBODY outside of Randleman had the Rams winning. Guess what? Randleman went into Reidsville and pulled off the upset of the state that night. Anything can happen when the playoffs start, remember when ND went to Scotland County's Pate Stadium in the 4-A playoffs a few seasons ago with NOBODY picking North to win that game? A lot of Scotland County fans went home sad that night.

North may win this game by a large margin, they may not, but this is the time of year where ANYTHING can happen and a lot of times does.

I remember hearing about that Rosman team. That's what you call "mountain football", line up the big boys and run it down your throat...LOL.

The kickoff for ND vs FF has been moved to 7pm. No pre-sale of tickets for this game. Maybe due to the light attendance of FF fans due to the long trip?

when we went to First Flight last season, we stopped in Williamston for an early supper; afterward my wife was driving and I fell asleep, instead of remaining on US64, she took US17 to Elizabeth City. I woke up and knew we were too committed to Elizabeth City and going down the peninsula through Camden on US 158 to Kitty Hawk. Knowing if we won we would be back in Elizabeth City in a week. I'm 69 years old and had never had the occasion to go to Elizabeth City before but went twice in 1 week! We ate at a nice restaurant down on the riverfront. My friend had a friend who had retired from the Coast Guard and now works there as a civilian and before dark, we got a quick overview of the Coast Guard Station there. If we do get to go back, id like to go visit the dirigible facility

Rosman also the very next week I believe beat a very Good ranked Cummings team, and I believe they beat some other great team to get to states, where they lost to North Edgecombe...Rosman ran a wishbone offense

I certainly don't have the answer, but there has to be a better way than for any team to travel five hours one way for a first round game.
If you figure it out let me and NCHSAA know please...

The only time living in middle of state has bothered me was last four years when my son had to travel to different time zones just to play in playoff games.
