Gaines gets the start today with Beran questionable. Collins is going small with three guards.

Shooting is just a little cold to start off, but overall like the looks we are getting from 3pt and Audige drawing fouls early.

We've been a little unlucky with the shots not falling but doing okay.

Kopp filling up the basket for us. Need to get others to start scoring.

Thanks goodness for Kopp getting hot. Our offense is lackluster

Our defense is solid. After a red hot OSU start it has been, as usual, pretty solid

Also love Kopp cutting for drives to the hoop with confidence. It's a nice addition to his 3-point shooting that he really needed to keep defenses honest against him.

Nance continues his solid play this year. It really seems like the lightbulb has switched on for him.

Finally tuned in to watch Cats B-ball and have the following question. Why does Ryan Young not play more? The first half turned when he came in the game. The ball barely broke the three point line on offense before he came into game. His presence gave the NU offense an inside out look which improved spacing for their shooters. He is also the team’s most effective screener and passer. On defense he is NU’s best pick and roll defender and he is also a very effective rebounder. I was impressed and felt the team played much better with him in the game.

The rest of the team looked pretty good but the defense needs work. Communication is poor and they don’t seem to know what their responsibilities are on pick and roll defense.

What I love most about this first half is that OSU is playing fairly well, and we're hanging with them. We weathered the original cold shooting, and now everyone is getting involved in the offense. The team is aggressive cutting to the lane, and that led directly to Nance being able to the tie the game on those free throws at the end of the half. When was the last half we've played where we were in the bonus, and the other team wasn't? A great half and really indicative of how much the team has improved since last year.

Go Cats!

Our defense is very good. We're very active and are cutting off their paying lanes. Love how aggressive Greer is playing, he got his hands on several passes down the stretch that led to baskets for us.

I didn't see that either. I thought our defense was pretty good. There were a couple of plays where we double-teamed and didn't rotate back quickly enough to cover the open shooter, but there just as many double-teams that forced a bad pass and a fast break. Most of the jumpshots the Buckeyes made have been contested - I'm okay with the shots they've gotten. Overall, I thought this was good defense for the half.

I was referring solely to half court, pick and roll defense. Pick and roll defense in the first ten minutes was awful. They were not calling out the screens, they did not seem to know if they wanted to go over or under and they did not seem to know if they wanted to double the ball or drop. Just seemed to be poor communication and confusion about responsibilities.

Because CC decided that Nance at the 5 is the way to go and everyone thinks it’s genius.

I do think it's a switch that has worked well this year. Nance seems to play better when he's starting, and Young has not lost anything by coming off the bench. The offensive scheme does seem to shift slightly when Nance is in (more of the 5-out offense) as opposed to when Young is in there (who seems to start in the same position at the top of the key as Nance, but usually goes down to the low post quickly). Both schemes seem to have been successful this year, so I'm good with it.

Does anyone else feel like the refs realized that OSU wasn't in the bonus in the first half and are trying to make up for it? Argh...

I do not disagree. But when have you seen them both on the floor other than against IU when Beran went out? And why can’t that happen?

Both great questions, and ones that I do not have an answer for.
could be saving having both out there for a week when they have time to practice it and an opponent who will be especially vulnerable to it.

Actually nance and Young were out together quite bit at the en of this game I think.

Brean had 4 fouls.

There are 80 minutes for 3 players. I just don’t like it when Young gets 10 minutes like he did in previous occasions
