I’m just gonna say this about this game: NU’s GOTTA get it. Period.

Here are Jordan Ash’s keys to the game. If you don’t follow him on Twitter, you should. He’s also started a podcast.

Just another bad start for NU. Buie is just not playing well.

Going up against a really good defensive team. Who will crash the boards hard. Gonna be tough

Seeing that Nance will play 5, not even sure if him getting into foul trouble will be a good or bad thing.

Why do refs always suck? It’s the last thing a team needs is help from those clowns.

Only NU gets that travel called on Ryan Young. That’s not the only problem with this game, of course...

Why can't we make open shots? Kopp, Berry... should be automatic.

That’s your takeaway from this terrible start? We’ve been horrible. Not nearly the energy or effort of Rutgers.

Refs? Really?

Embarrassing. Collins will probably blame the 8 days off. We are stuck with him for a couple more years, I guess, but he just isn't very good as a HC.

This is awful. We seem to look worse as the season progresses.

Not sure what Beran or Audige need to do to see their minutes reduced dramatically.

CC needs to get control of his players. Down like 24-9 so Boo just dribbles down, not a single pass and jacks up a 3. Big 10 is a tough conference, but we shoot ourselves in the foot way too much

No reason for this team not to play hard either. Effort should never be in question. That to me is one of the biggest issues with this team- talent, but they seem to think losing is ok. We need a player or two with a killer instinct that hate to lose.

Energy from Audige and Kopp sparking a little something here. Hard to sustain this for a very long time, but maybe we can finish the half off within striking distance. Rutgers got sloppy.

Kudos to CC for the shake up in the lineup. Young with Nance. No true PG. just the guys willing to bring energy. Berry has brought a ton

Would like to cut into the lead more, but have to keep this below double digits at the half. Can’t lose this momentum before the break.

And yet our coach is acting like a coach. Buie playing playground ball? Bench. Beran looking lost? Nance can play 4. I hope this is a turning point. Not as much for the game, as for the season and how we play

There is no excuse for how we played the first dozen minutes, but we are still within striking range. I don't like to blame refs, but I think a few of our players have developed reputations with the zebras such that they get NO breaks out there. The refs were, um, not good.

It’s clearly the case with Audige. One that was not mentioned yet, getting a technical for shaking of a hooked arm.

It’s compounded by being a low tier team. Blue bloodish programs don’t have nearly the same problems. And often have coaches angrily shooting lasers out of their eyes when they don’t agree with a call

Yeah, Audige is clearly on the zebras' sh*t list. I think Nance was last season, but he has toned down his reactions this year, and that has helped.
