Well, here we are, with NU facing Rutgers for the second time in two weeks, but this time in New Jersey.

The first time around, a 64-56 loss, NU turned the ball over a season-high 20 times. They fell behind 31-11 halfway through the first half but cut the lead to five by halftime. Then in the second, they trailed by as many as 15, cut it to five again but couldn’t get any closer. They shot 20% from beyond the arc and never led.

Coming off a gut-wrenching loss, again missing Berry and playing on the road, winning this one would be a stunner.

Same starting five for NU.

Good start, but I find myself not caring. Am I crazy or does Kopp just look tired?

Maybe it’s the black uniforms/shirts calling attention to it, but Collins has really gone gray.

Rutgers drilling mid-range shots and we can’t make a lay up. Plus second unit throwing the ball away. At some point, players need to make plays.

Every time the ball goes inside the offense finds a good shot. Even if it’s Gaines as before this last timeout.

I want to praise our half-court offense, but I’m pretty sure it’s because they’re leaving Gaines wide open to collapse on the ball. If I were playing us, I’d force Gaines to beat us too.

We’re absolutely terrible, but why is it that refs are consistently horrific against us when we play? How do they miss something that clear when the guy was clearly not shooting.

Playing solid! Make those threes!

Guys just do not work hard on defense. Or, at least not as hard as the other teams we play.

Not to mention the moving screen on that pick and roll slam dunk. That was terrible.

Wait? Going to that zone led to Rutgers going on a 9-0 run? I don't understand. That zone has always worked so well.

That was bad.

Almost as bad are the number of shots we’ve missed from inside three feet. Made worse by the number we’ve missed from 22+ feet.

Why do we do this to ourselves????
Because this is what most sports fans do. They watch their alma mater on game days. A major university in a Power conference shouldn't consistently suck this much year after year after year anymore. I don't expect consistent tourny appearances, but we should at least be able to play a competitive brand of basketball every few years. This program has had one actual successful year and maybe a few marginal years in the Carmody era going back at least 25 years.

This team would lose to Rutgers 9 out of 10 games. There is zero answer to stop them inside and that’s game set match. The 4th best player on Rutgers would be NU’s best player.

My golly, how many layups have Nance and Young missed in the last couple games? How many games have we lost because of the ridiculous number of chip pies missed?

I like the way the Cats are clawing their way back in the 2nd half after being down by 10. I watched a replay of the last game and that was a brutal loss in double OT. Yikes!

This team yes. These players, properly coached, would take 3-4 out of 10 against this Rutgers team.

Ryan Young uncharacteristically going 5-11 from inside 3 ft last game was killer. Kopp going 2-8 (or 2-9) from the field did the same. Chase being a sub-60% FT shooter did the same. Any of those flip the other way and we would have won that game.

Oh, look. Rutgers’ 25% 3-pt shooter has drilled two in a row, nothing but net.

Another wasted 1 and 1 opportunity. I wish Collins would stop calling that play.

EDIT: Now Buie! Damnit, Chris!

I used to watch a lot of Bob Huggins when he coached Cincinnati and Jim Calhoun when he coached UConn. At the time, it used to be bother me that anytime anyone did something stupid on the court, these guys would immediately take them out of the game and chew them out. But.... after watching stupid decision after stupid decision by our guys with no consequences, I really kinda' want to see that again.

I mean.... that pull-up 25 foot 3 pointer by Buie on the fast break that he got blocked is just inexcusable for a guy in his second full year of the program. Why wasn't he pulled immediately??

Any time Anthony Gaines takes 10 shots, we’re in trouble. Especially if Miller is also 2/8.

You don’t lose 11 in a row because of bad luck.

Stupid pass from Audige. Stupid shot from Young. Blame Collins all you want. Players have to make plays.
