The Granddaddy of them all: The Prep Bowl.

Mentioned that twice in different threads. But the Meteors came back to rout StL to get another chance vs SR, a team they lost to earlier in the season by one score.Missing out on the playoffs at 5-4 after losing to Laurence in the final minutes of week 9 really took the air out off DLS sails
SR 42 DLS 14 - I only saw two varsity games this year prior to tonight. One of the was the SR 37 DLS 30 game. DLS looks the same as they did in week three. SR looked improved. Freshman Kaleb Brown scored three TD’s and should be fighting for a starting varsity spot next year. Three freshmen OL started on the Sophomore team. Wonder what Brown’s numbers and the freshmen team record would have been with those three young men playing with their follow freshmen.
Tonight’s game was for the CCL crown but in all honesty these kids on all of these teams in the CCL playoffs are not playing for trophy but for the love of the game. Many seniors will not play football after this. During the game #72 for DSL was engaged blocking SR players. Sometimes he knocked them down and sometimes he got knocked down. But after most plays they would help each other up and patted each others helmets. SR suited about three times as many players as did DLS tonight. By the end of the game #72 blocking guys three and four deep on the depth charts and half his size. But he kept helping them up the little guys at the end of the game. He looked like he was having ball. Although he lost the game he went out a winner as did all the players tonight.
PC has always declined to play in the Prep Bowl Playoffs. I could never understand that. For me PC always seemed like they never fully became full fledged members of the CCL because of that.
Any adult who has authority over kids who does not recognize positives that these games have for a second chance to play more should not supervising any athletic program.
I don’t expect those outside the CCL to understand but the Prep Bowl out drew the Bears for decades.

Sorry Rock, meant no disrespect by mentioning it twice, I was following the game and Twitter and it was 35-0 two min into the third quarter it just didn’t seem like DLS was giving it their all especially after the first game was so tight. Maybe SR just outplayed them that well. Sounds like that freshman RB will be a force the next few years.Mentioned that twice in different threads. I’d rather think SR is healthy and the Seniors want to end a tough season on a high note. Tough that 5 Ls came from 5 semi-finalists but that’s the breaks sometimes. One more to go to keep the resurrection on schedule. Nothing but respect for Coach Boehm’s DLS program. Good luck to your Caravan tomorrow and the quest for #13
No worries McCar, you have a great pulse on the area Catholic teams.Sorry Rock, meant no disrespect by mentioning it twice, I was following the game and Twitter and it was 35-0 two min into the third quarter it just didn’t seem like DLS was giving it their all especially after the first game was so tight. I mean I felt differently on the Western Ave. bar scene decades ago but seeing the numbers decline in all the relevant stats, Illinois/cook county pop., Catholics and football players while costs don’t go down, makes one appreciate the alumni and administrations that keep these places competitive. My yearly hope is a successful regular season for the schools I follow and a memorable post season clash, preferably after the first and second rounds. It is always a good thing to see one's opponents do well.
Best of luck to Mustangs next week!
I saw him first hand. No surprise. Extremely explosive. Big-time talent.A freshman RB at SR tore it up all Prep Bowl playoffs, including 3 TDs last night. To anyone who knocks the Prep Bowl, this freshman just got a HUGE confidence boost going into 2019. Look out for him. Best of luck to SR!

For Rock and Witty: Happy news, I was at the schools this week for monthly alumni luncheon. I missed my invite to the ribbon cutting ceremony but got a tour of the new fitness center. Impressive but I like to see at least one sewer cover for nostalgia sake. As far as facilities goes I was told SR is planning to replace the victor's stands in the next round of capital improvements. The thinking is the present home stands will move to the visitor's side with new ones for the home side. New press box in the mix too! Hopefully they will need that space for IHSA playoff games deep into November the next few years.
I like the future of the program. And a lot of the capital improvements were planned a decade ago. Great to see them coming into use.Wow. Great news. That would be a lot of seating.

Great recap on the DLS player.
I was very impressed by the energy that SR played with. These kids were not playing like it was a consolation bracket in the N.I.T. And it would be disservice to DLS to say they mailed it in. I also was very impressed with the under class men brought up to the varsity last night.
On the issue of PC declining to play in the Prep Bowl, I find it hard to believe that any Augustinian run school would walk away from a challenge. Father Crawford has to be rolling in his grave. But PC is owned by the Joliet Diocese not the Augustinian’s. I don’t know what the decision making process was out there. I always liked the idea that a religious school should be run by a professional, but it’s enhanced when that person is an alumnus. Otherwise that person is a best a guest or is just an employee. That’s why Fr. Tom McCarthy is still so revered at St. Rita. The forfeiting of the MC game by PC was appalling. There should be a cost to that decision.
