Getting old sucks. Currently dealing with tendonitis in my left ankle and right elbow, so I can't lift or do cardio. What's left Tai Chi? This is GnarlsBarkley BTW. New name says it all.

This is easy. Do the Yoga with Tim 30 Day Challenge. It is free and on youtube and legit. You can do it from your living room and you are guaranteed to feel and move better in 30 days if you keep it up.

Here's Day One of the 2025 Challenge. It should be the first in the playlist for the whole challenge.

Took a stim preworkout beverage for the first time in forever. May have been meth. Crazy difference. Let’s just say I didn’t bounce any dumbbells off my dome today.

Standing (plate loaded) chest press - 270 x 8 last set.

decline bench 225x8

100x 10 pullovers

Dips for days

all PRs. Juicy.

So turns out pushing a stroller in the heat up and down hills feels exactly like pushing a sled. 3 miles and change of that in 4 million percent humidity whooped my *** yesterday. (Baby slept through 70% of it. Rude.)

I had heavy reverse band squat last week (used doubled mini bands, ended with 340 bar weight for 1RM - very happy with that) and my elbows are ROASTED. I have wrestled with elbow tendinitis on and off for about five years and it flared up pretty badly on maternity leave, but geez, not like this. Weirdly, it felt okay to bench. Bodies are weird, man.

High heat and humidity makes me want to hibernate more than blizzard conditions. I guess I'm a fat ankle (honestly...my calves are THICK. I really might be)

15.2% BF last Friday. Not bad for a week completely off the rails.

Turkish get up and deadlift technique is improving. Loving the switch.

Massage, sauna, plunge, mobility, cupping and dry needle are all part of the routine. Great for keeping things in check.

I didn't know tendinitis could hurt so bad. Currently wearing a brace on my ankle as anytime I dorsal flex my ankle, it feels like my muscle is ripping away from the bone. My elbow is mostly fine, except when I try to grip anything away from my body with my arm extended. I can barely make a fist.
Going to look into some PT and dry needling.
no idea what my BF% is but I’d guess mid to high 20’s 6ft 206

Well my first week of a cut didn't go as planned. I've managed to go from 179.6 with 30.59% BF (per my Withings scale) on June 26 (last day before starting) to 184.15 at 31.71% today. Which, if accurate, means I've managed to add 1.1 pounds of muscle and 3.46 pounds of fat in a week.

I'm tracking as well as I'm going to track. I've eaten between 2200 and 2400 calories and eaten at least 175 grams of protein per day (most days closer to 200). I'm doing a kettlebell program and my numbers have all jumped up, too.

Maybe I'm in a bulk and didn't know it? Pretty frustrating, not gonna lie.

@Hank Camacho

I weigh in every day, at the cost of my mental health, but in my opinion, the 40,000ft observation/tracking a monthly trend is the best way to gauge progress.

Try intermittent fasting from 7pm - 10am, limiting cals to 2000 & w/200g protein. Drink water… gallons. Stick with it.

this has been my formula… except holding to 1800cals.

If you're at those macros then pretzel is correct. Water retention. Didn't you say you upped workout intensity?

Also, throw that scale in the trash.

Drink more water.

yup. as anth said, if you upped intensity it's not uncommon for the scale to creep up a bit. If you're familiar with the concept of a deload, in more than a decade of training I have always lost weight during a deload week just because my muscles are getting healing time, which = less inflammation/water weight.

Also, if you had a big calorie week before the cut, like I typically do, I see that gain more the 2nd week.

In short, stay the course. Totally normal.

I'm thisclose. I am instead going to try @KookyKats advice for the time being and weigh daily but monitor the results weekly (or less). The problem is the scale is just so convenient in how it interfaces with the Whoop system. But Whoop, too, can be paralysis by analysis, as the new Whoop Age system is pretty awesome on the whole but it can occasionally send me down a deep rabbithole of autistic anxiety.

In other health related robot news: my Eight Sleep's AI mattress cover remains amazing. I just paid the annual subscription and it is worth every penny. Using Claude as an interactive fitness journal and calorie tracker, however, is not working as hoped. That kind of sucks because it close to being awesome.

Such a technical movement but it's a fantastic exercise. Shoulder mobility supreme.
Indeed. F*** "Doctor" Mike Isratel.

It is interesting that you are learning the TGU from the ground up. My boy Dan John actually teaches it from standing and uses pressing with a light bell at every step as a learning cue to make sure you are in the right position. It might be helpful to see a different take on the movement (or it might be unnecessary noise).

Here is a visual explanation:

Interesting. **** is hard enough without the presses.

We started with just getting up on elbow the first time. So just a gradual progression. Similar with deadlifts(trap bar), we did 275 this morning after starting way low. I've watched a ton of videos just to figure out the different cues. This is a pretty good one. I like this dude.

I brought up goblets but they've been so good for hip mobility. Worship. Really the only style squat I can get ass2grass.

Speaking of Mike Israetel, he is fully off the rails. He just got a bunch of really invasive plastics work done to shape his midsection because he apparently can't come to grips with the fact he's a) built to be a powerlifter but wants a bodybuilding pro card for some reason and b) can't get his diet together so he's got GH gut AND extra fat he can't drop. I won't pretend powerlifters are the most psychologically stable bunch, but high-level bodybuilding is another level of psychosis I do not understand. It's also absurdly dangerous, between the ultra-restrictive dieting (aka starvation for some), overtraining and steroids. It ain't worth it, Mike.

Plus, his commentary always sneaks in perverted sexual innuendo. Frankly, if anyone does that in every verbal paragraph of thought, I tend to judge that mf’er to be a bonafide creeper.

add the fact Dr Mike talks openly about doing roids and shaving his nose… stay TF away. I can’t look or listen to him.

Innuendo? He’s openly a perv. Many a podcast I’ve had to abort once he starts on some weirdo, sharing of exploits which probably never happened rant. I like people who aren’t trying to convince you they are cool.

-Pretty wild stat, my woman and I have the exact same muscle rate (#s of muscle divided by #s of body weight). We’re both at 0.778 or 78%. Technically she’s got 0.0001 percent more, damnit, she reminds me about it.

-Totally agree with pretz on the bodybuilding, takes a real psycho. I know because growing up wrestling we were always cutting weight and water, I wrestled #103 my 8/9th grade years. Wtf? Why is a #103 13 year old being told to cut water and food? Serious wrestlers are maniacs.

I’ve had gyms want to sponsor me to compete in BBing comps and every time I say eff that, I’m never starving myself again and definitely not cutting water. And if I’m not going to have a chance to win without that, why even do it?

-Speaking of, bulked back up to #218.3 the last few months. Feel good, look good, but per usual I’m never complacent or satisfied so it’s time to cut a little (speaking of body dysmorphia). Just going high rep, low weights for a few months and cutting back the cals, which for me just means not taking food with me everywhere I go and just eating at home minus a banana or protein bar here and there. Forgot how nice that is on the joints and the pumps are insane.

I have decided to try Ostarine and Cardarine for the next two months+ to see if they actually work. Why not?

-Speaking of, I appreciate everyone in here’s efforts, it’s amazing. That being said, some of you all are on what I would consider unsustainable regimens. Don’t overcomplicate, in my opinion. I’m not drinking EAAs or BCAAs intra-workout or measuring anything. I used to and quit and it made ZERO difference. Just my personal experience though. Saves plenty of moola too. I will eat a banana at the gym though.

-Regarding trainers, find a good one that charges a decent amount because they’re actually knowledgeable. These young trainers where I lift are ridiculous.

I’ve seen one make a concoction of honey, creatine, BCAAs, water and raw apple cider vinegar on the gym floor with a female that was new to the gym and not close to good shape. Why in the eff does she need that? She doesn’t…

Another had what had to be an 80+ year old lady doing weighted and spotted hack squats who was brand new to the gym….

A new out of shape couple doing cross body single arm chest presses…

Another had an older couple set up a two stack high step, lie down on it and do some kind of banded partner pullover. They’re never going to set that up and do that themselves bubba…

Honestly, what the eff are we even doing or teaching here?

-Isratel, every 20-30 year old in the gym is always doing the latest movement/setup/isolation move that he just put out on socials, every damn week.

People just don’t want to do tried and true lifts and mechanics anymore, it’s all about the newest “hack” aka shortcut. 🤦

Oh and because I know everyone is just so very interested. I’m doing an upper day, lower day, then PPL, off S/S*.

Walk every morning 1 mile with the dog, first thing (leave the coffee and everything til afterwards, gets the energy and juices flowing) and evening 1 mile with the dog. Ran 1 mile every morning M-F for the last 3 months and want to get back to that but I hate running.

*I sometimes can’t stay away and I’ll go hit calves, forearms, core, etc, the accessories as it were, on the weekend.

Guys of my vintage (mid 50’s) in the gym are there to jibberjabber and stare at women. Today I successfully avoided 3 dudes who are always starting conversations about NOTHING.

They also don’t improve because they are certainly not challenging themselves.

I gotta get my sets in a rapid pace to GTFO and get my *** on a bus to the City. Must be nice to work for yourself locally… as, I too, like to take things chill.
