Ate and DRANK like a complete fatso this past weekend bender in Lexington. No workouts.

lost half a pound.
Went to a buddy’s house over the weekend who has a ‘bourbon collection’. Sitting out by the fire and he comes out and hands each of us guys a bourbon snifter and says follow me. We go down into his cellar as my eyes adjust to the light I see hundreds of bottles everywhere. Walk right past the Rip 15yr 107 proof, whistle pig boss hog, the van winkle 23yr family edition and start getting pours of pre-prohibition juice. The next hour or so was a blur. 100+yr old wheated whiskies, redbreast, grand-dad, old Taylor, bib greenbrier and the list just keeps going.

As a bourbon enjoyer it was humbling and beyond a bucket list moment. This stuff doesn’t even show up in museums and we are consuming it. He wants me to come over and help organize it. Going to see if he’ll let me document and catalog this stuff. It was too much to take in during the span of an evening.

Lemonade Salt LMNT now available in sparkling can version. :)
Man I just naturally sweat so much it’s worth it to me. After a long hard lift session or training at the firegrounds I’m legitimately soaking wet like I jumped in a pool. If I don’t get some elytes in I will start getting cramps, not debilitating to wear I can’t function but not comfortable either. And yes, that’s with drinking them the night before bed and morning of physical activity.

Status:

was up a bit too much weight. Not really hawking my diet besides protein intake….(Which is fine.). Dialed it in for 3 days and easily lost 7 pounds. Crazy.

Mondays stink, so I have integrated leg day as my masochistic way to alleviate the dread of work.

New likes:

RDLs on Pit Shark/belted squat machine
Vertical Leg Press machine (Arsenal)
Nordic Ham Curl machine Previously mentioned

Left my Hume Band charger in KY somewhere. beat. They are sending me a new one, supposedly.

current top sets:

240 x 10 DynaBody standing chest press
225 x 10 on Decline bench (barbell)
120 x 6 on standing overhead press (Smith)
190 x 10 on seated shoulder press plate machine
540 x 15 leg press
100 x 10 dumbbell pullovers
2 pull-ups 🤩

eff my Scale. Liar.

Jealous of the belted squat and vertical leg press. I’m also a huge proponent of Monday leg days, everyone else is doing chest so you’re usually pretty free to find a rack or whatever you’re needing.

Belt squat kills my knees and hips. I tend to have more discomfort in any machine that locks you into one range of motion (shoulder press, smith machine, etc.) when I can be just fine doing the same motion with free weights. The hips part is just from where the belt sits on me and how I'm built. It just puts a ton of pressure on the front/top of my hip bones. Belt squats can be a phenomenal way to work legs without spinal loading, though.

Since I'm officially signed up to compete, I figured it was about time to squat with a straight barbell again. I have used almost exclusively duffalo and SSB bars for all squatting for the last several years to take some strain off my shoulders and elbows. Anyway, smoked 285 and then got 295. My postpartum PR from July was 275. I also repped 315 (deadlift) full range for the first time since pre-pregnancy. Not bad for an (almost) 37 year old mom.

That’s sick, 👏🏽. Looking forward to seeing where you get by competition time. My lady can do 250x5 on deads at #120 which is pretty impressive and she’s 11 years older than me. My gym disappeared our SSB and I’m pretty pissed about it. Maybe it’s to force me to go back to traditional squats as well but with not labrum on my right shoulder that position is torture on me.

This is where the serious meatheads preside in my gym… you need an add-on to the membership to use this stuff. I only entered once with my trainer to do squats. (Once only).

chalk only allowed here, if you don’t re-rack your weight correctly - you get terminated.

Still doing light workouts since calf injury and having the back problems. Both are coming along though as I have been working out and focusing on strengthening those areas more right now. Calf felt really good yesterday as I played 3 co-ed softball games and did some quick moves going after some grounders and running (not full speed) the bases. (we won all three games so that helped too)

Going to wait until next week to start back to more intense training because I have a test on Thursday for my 7th Dan Black in Kyokushin/Shotokan Karate styles and want to be rested up and not hurt for that. Really should be easier than ones before because at this level, it is more honorary, and they just want to see if I know the advanced material and knowledge. Will do some sparring although it should be light.

Still hanging around 200lbs. Was at 197lbs this morning so the lighter workouts have not messed me up too bad. Holidays coming up will do some damage but...the new year's resolution will fix that.

My calf is still not 100% over a month later my man so I feel you. I can do anything now but I still feel it when I make a sharp dorsiflexion movement. Cool you still study and train in martial arts.

Martial Arts have kept me limber and in decent shape. At 68 I can still do the splits (not Chinese) and kick most head kicks over my head level although not with the speed or power I used to have. It has however enabled me to continue to play ball which is what I like to do best. (fishing is a close second)

That's legit at any age. I want to be you when I grow up. Respect.

Mobility, like special teams, seems to get ignored until it is a problem. You are a great lesson for what is possible with smart work.

Last week, I averaged 2700 calories and 196g protein while walking 13000 steps/day and doing 3 kettlebell workouts, one of which I did by myself and went for a long time with heavy, experimental stuff. Despite that, I've managed to drop a couple pounds of weight while getting stronger. Walking that much has been a Godsend mentally but it is hard to sustain.

I currently have my wife's family staying with me while trying to catch up work-wise in-between trials, so I am happy punching the clock with workouts and nutrition this week. Between this week and Mitch Barnhart, I am in dire need of meditation.

Passed the 7th Dan (Master Level) without sparring because testing lasted longer than planned Thursday night so, will do some sparring at a later date (not required but a few students want to go a round of light sparring with me so...)

Will start back to training harder on Wednesday because I am headed for Dallas Tomorrow morning stopping in Grand Prairie TX to Trader's Village a large flea market (120 acres of shops, food venders, rides, and entertainment) then later on to a large sports bar to watch Sunday night football.

Monday, we are on to a museum or something (not sure which, an old Army buddy planned this trip) then later on to AT&T Stadium (Cowboy Stadium) for Monday Night Football.

I’m going to assume that means you kicked 6 dudes named Dan’s asses already then got passed the 7th one meaning you are now the king of all Dans.

Spent most of last week down in Naples visiting the folks. While there, I only lifted weights once (at a Crunch gym that you could smell the TRT/Tren/HGH the moment you set foot in the facility. Was glorious  💉)...

.. I jumped in on pickleball matches a few mornings and a spirited couple hours of water volleyball, all with folks collecting pensions and social security, who if asked what creatine and glutamine are, would go with newly discovered planets in our solar system before some daily supplement for longevity...

....and despite regularly pressing/pulling/squatting heavy, I returned home with pain in my hips and knees form all the start/stop motion of pickleball and what feels like a frozen shoulder holding my arms out of the water for hours on end 🤕

@Kooky Kats bruh, just show your doc your food/wine/travel posts and she’ll give up giving you a “diet”. 🤣

Also, I’m a firm believer that to follow any “diet” you’re going to HAVE to mass produce food/meal prep. People are just not going to come home after a long day every day and follow some diet to cook a full meal for supper and keep it healthy.

Too often, there will be 2-3 days a week post work people are going to say eff it, I’m not doing all that and eat what they want/order food if what they should eat isn’t readily available.

Food and meal prep are definitely cheat codes but I can see where the monotony of the same meals over and over would wear. However, having something macro'd and easily available is key if you're really trying to dial in.

Just depends on goals. If you're more casual and just looking to maintain a decent waist size, moderate workouts, and eat good. At minimum you'd need 75% of your weekly meals coming from home.

Completely agree. You can also make a few different meals, prep them up, and freeze them of course so you can switch it up day to day. I’m single, only “have” to work 2-3 days a week, no kids as mentioned many times and some nights I don’t want to take the time to do anything food wise so the option of buying ready made food is tempting. I can usually resist when the option already exists at home even if I don’t want it it’s so much easier. I cannot fathom trying to do these things with kids or other responsibilities and not having food prepped.

I’ll take your recipes… see if you know what you’re doin and whatnot.
Heart healthy recipe for Kooky:
- 8 oz Mediterranean sea bass filet
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- Sprinkle of salt
- Ground pepper
- Lemon slices

Directions:
  1. Set oven for 375
  2. Spread olive oil at bottom of baking dish
  3. Lay fish on oil.
  4. Sprinkle salt and pepper on fish
  5. Lay lemon slices on fish
  6. Put in oven
  7. Bake until 135 internal
  8. Serve with steamed broccoli
  9. Look for things to fill the void in life that great food provided.
  10. Fail at #9
  11. Go to White Castle at 11 PM when you get hungry

There are 3 more Dans to kick before I get to another plane of ability. Doubt I will get there. Did not care for this level or the one before. My instructor was pushing all of this because of my knowledge, training, and years in the system. He calls me the master chief of his school as we have another 7th dan who is the Senior Chief. I said ok to that because of the Halo Master Chief whose character I happen to like so...

With kids is actually easier and a time saver. I spend 45 minutes prepping 2x a week rather than cooking every night. It just takes getting used to eating the same thing twice a day 4 or 5 days in a row.
