Where the heck are you watching people boo 16 year olds? Only time I saw that happen was if an opposing player made a dirty play/late hit. It never happened any other time really. Now you might boo the refs or MAYBE when the opposing team runs out, but that's different from directly booing a player's performance.
Pretty crappy behavior tbh.
The point about "disrespect" was there's already no discipline. Add in make a lot of money to play ball and they will feel they have no incentive to do anything but that.
There's going to have to be contracts or at the very least some kind of written agreements.
Also this: "Generally speaking, the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) sets the minimum age for employment (14 years for non-agricultural jobs), restricts the hours youth under the age of 16 may work, and prohibits youth under the age of 18 from being employed in hazardous occupations."
So if they're under 16 they can only work so many hours without violating federal law. And it also states when they can work during school sessions as well. And that last line is key. "Hazardous occupations". A child under the age of 18 can't be employed in a field where they could be easily injured. I could see someone claiming playing football especially being a "hazardous" occupation".
Point being, it's even more complex than college NIL. As most of the recipients of that NIL are over 18 and legal adults. It's not going to be as black and white as some are thinking it's going to be.
Clearly you don't go to many high school games.
Sure they have incentive to do more than just basketball. Don't you need a high school diploma to play in college or make it to the NBA? There's also incentive to earn deals. Most businesses aren't going to be eager to represent poor behavior.
Not really. I work for my employer everyday without a contract. I did the same thing when I was a minor.
The hours restriction is only during the school week. Generally, weekends, summer, holidays and so forth, students can work normal hours. There are usually restrictions that they can't work past a certain hour. But, lol, are you thinking they would need that many hours to film a commercial, make an appearance or sign some autographs?
Why would high school football be deemed a hazardous occupation? They aren't employed by the school and the school isn’t paying them. So it’s an extracurricular activity, not an occupation.
It's not that difficult at all, unless you just want to pretend it is. You do realize Reed had several HS NIL deals, right? Were you as concerned then?
