Flo just came out today with their HS top 20 pound-for-pound for this upcoming season. In case it is a subscriber-only article, Melvin Miller (165 lbs.) is #1, Samuel Sanchez (126 lbs.) is #2, Landon Sidun (126 lbs.) is #3 and Grey Burnett (132 lbs.) is #4. Sidun and Burnett have committed to Penn State as has #11 Clinton Shepherd (150 lbs.). The only two wrestlers in the top ten who haven't committed yet are Sanchez and #10 Jason Dube (150 lbs. from Ohio), with both of them being juniors. There are also two Pennsylvania wrestlers in the top 20 who haven't committed. They are #12 Jayden O'Farrill (175 lbs. from Bishop McCort) and #16 Brayden Wenrich (120 lbs. from Northampton).

Obviously, Sanchez is the biggest name still out there. I have been following his career pretty closely since he goes to HS less than two hours north of me in San Diego, and I would love Penn State to land him if possible. I know Penn State is loaded near his weight, but he is obviously a phenomenal prospect. I wonder how much interest Penn State has in him? For those who are far more knowledgeable about the top HS wrestlers than I, I would love to hear your thoughts.

Cael will call Sanchez on Recruiting Day 1, as will every coach in the country. Where it goes from there, we'll see. IMO there's room for him -- aside from Cael recruiting the best guys anyway. When Sanchez enrolls, PSU will have Sidun, Burnett, Soto, and Weaver at 125-133 (assuming Blaze outgrows 133 and nobody else does). Couldn't hurt if Nagao worked out with him some more.

O'Farrill transferred to State High. Strong chance he's headed our way.

Wenrich ... probably Lehigh.

An awful lot of guys we should be aware of in the rankings at each weight. Far too many to list, or even to cross-compare vs Dice's spreadsheet.

Notably: Spencer Lee, Eli Herring, and Teag Sanderson are not ranked. Not sure why Lee isn't -- I thought he was 2030 (FR) but might be wrong. Herring missed last year due to injury. Sanderson will be ranked at some point.

Iowa commit Shamus Regan is #9 at 138. Notable only because he's now at Lake Highland Prep FL -- which means he's now transferred at least 4x in HS (South Carolina to Wyoming Seminary to McCruit to South Carolina to Lake Highland). Challenging the Ferraris for most HS career transfers, though still behind Tyler DeKraker.

Speaking of the Ferraris: Their Cousin Vinny is #16 at 144. (I am NOT making this up. he is their cousin.)

Tommy Rowlands' son is ranked at 157. I feel old.

Hutcherson is #7 at 190. That won't last.

Kameron Hazelett (JR, IN) is #3 at HWT. WIllie is very high on him as a prospect. Expect Cael to pursue him next summer.

Villafan and Wax are only freshman but they should be 1 and 2 at 106. I think Villafane is the best recruit in the nation if it's not Boyle. I rate them both above Miller.

I also can't understand Iowa's recruiting thoughts. They have 2 and 3 at 132 and 3, 4 and 9 at 138. Spending that much capital on 2/3 potential college weights doesn't seem like the best use of resources especially when Penn State has higher ranked recruits at both weights.

Villafane is a fantastic prospect and he might prove better than Miller in time, but he's an incoming HS FR and this is premature. Once upon a time, Mason Gibson and Adam Busiello had impeccable resumes as freshmen.

Villafane is a 6x PJW champ. Those guys don't grow on trees.

In July he won U17 world freestyle as an 8th grader, beating Wax in the finals. He competed for Puerto Rico, therefore did not undergo the more difficult USA trials. He lost to Wax earlier in the year, so no guarantee he would've won US trials.

He also took bronze at Pan Ams in April. So a very good resume, but not bulletproof.

Also not sure he is a better prospect than Lee.

Boyle is a high school Junior with an absolutely huge frame. He's going to be fine size-wise.

I'm not sure we'll ever see another snyder. His first year at 285 was the only year he was undersized. And it didn't matter. He did sht like this.

I see we will be getting Sanchez vs. Sidun at Who's Number One! It is not too often you get to see two of the top three P4P wrestlers in the nation compete. I'm very excited for this.
