Nohody’s talking about us. Refreshing. I like it!
Really thinking about it, being a 3-seed is kind of wild. If you would have told me last summer, we would be a three seed in year one under Pope I’d have done backflips. For context, that’s as good a seed as Dillingham, Sheppard, Reeves, Thiero, Big Z, Wagner, Mitchell, etc. It’s a better seed than the 2011 Brandon Knight team. It’s a better seed than Ulis, Murray, Poythress. It’s kind of surreal if you really think about everything we’ve seen this program go through in the last 9 months to be a 3-seed today.

Asking a team to do what they have not done all year. Just because the game tips @ 7pm Friday night in ncaat. Is a stretch. They never were consistent game to game. Then it became during each game. 10 mins of consistent, 10 mins of not. Then it became 5 mins all game, up and down. Trending down is the overall point we are at. Due to injuries and the tear & wear of the sec gauntlet. But one thing is for sure though :). They are truly battled tested, along with the other sec teams. The one thing that can help, it's almost like saying they got that past experience. But so does every other sec team that is in. 🫡💙💙💙💙💙🤞

I’m the opposite, I want teams to fear playing UK like the Pitino years. They feared the pressure defense and the threes from all over the court. I want that reputation back
We all do. That takes time. 14-14 in Pitino’s first year wasn’t fearsome. Just three years later, 1993 you’re destroying everyone en route to a Final Four. Takes time.

We are nowhere close to that stature. Correct. You are sir.

Right. Finding some positive. We are with you. We just know, Kentucky is not there yet. As yourself probably also agrees. Just don't beat ourselves in this tourney. Will go a flipping long way for Coach Pope and this rebuild. Because that's what destroyed the last regime.

The coaching of Mark Pope this season has been remarkable.

That possible S16 matchup with UT is exciting. That will be a barn burner. We match up very well with them.

I originally said I'd be wildly pleased with a S16 max in Pope's first year. But not against EWWWTEE. Now I'm hoping for E8. And if that ends up being Houston, that might be a fun game to watch also. Our offense vs. their defense.

The 2nd game is concerning. Illinois isn't a team to sneeze at.

Must also remember an historically STRONG SEC so a brutal conference schedule, which was taken into account but still.

100% but we have to have the team to back it up. Had we been healthy I guarantee we would have been an Elite 8/ final 4 pick on many boards, on field of 68 some guys were still saying if we play our best we could make the elite 8.

I am not sure. The energy in the room when they made the announcement was pretty low. Not sure, if the loss against Bama was still lingering or if the boys are checked out and just going through the motions or because everything they went through and being older perhaps they just don’t react with more energy…. I hope I am wrong but that room looked pretty low energy …

because being selected in the field is expected, no additional excitement...

And probably Illinois is the team that players do not want to meet

I think they just don't have a team full of guys who show emotion.
The same was said of the pregame clip before the Auburn game
That's just who they are.

Or they were focused snd not feeling the need to do a back flip over being a 3 seed. I doubt that any of the top 10 seeds showed alot of emotion when they wete announced.

At least Pope will likely watch some film on Troy.......

.......so we've got that going for us. Which is nice.
This is not hyperbole, but I bet Pope spends more time prepping for Troy than he has for any other game in his life as a coach. I don't think that's a stretch to say. Pope's focus and effort will be 180 degrees opposite of Cal's going into a tournament. And not to mention the differences in coaching staffs.
