and we're coaxing walk-on JUCO OLs. I'd say the lack of a DC is going to mean next to nothing in terms of pulling this class out of the *******.

Why in the hell is it taking so long? we have gotten good assistants in the past so why cant we get the guy we want. At first i thought maybe the guy we wanted was still coaching in a bowl but those are almost over. Is there an alabama assistant looking to be a DC or can we really not get anyone?

Mullen is just making sure he gets the right guy. Georgia and TAMU haven't hired anybody yet either. I am ready for it to be announced though. Hopefully it is somebody we will like, because we need some positive news pretty soon.</p>

The egg bowl win was great and will continue to help me through the off season but im ready for a great hire. I didnt think newton was coming anyway but the general consensus is recruiting is not going so well so we need something to lift the spirits

that tells me two things:

1. It's likely not Manny Diaz, unless Diaz is going to the convention, which I guess is possible.

2. We're not going to promote from within. If we were going to do that, we probably would have already.

Where are all the "insider sources" when you need a little info/ rumor? I'm more concerned about this hire than our current qb recruiting carousel. We need a DC with Diaz' attacking philosophy. I'm sick of watching our defense let the opposing offense dictate the action and I hope to never see us rush 3 down linemen on 3 and long again.

unfolds.
It's not something that MSU could have avoided, given the circumstances.

we aren't getting any decent news on the recruiting front, you might want to ask yourself whether that nagging little meyer ******** problem has anything to do with it. Hell, I can't wait to go to bed so I can wake up and read about the next de-commit or maybe we'll pick up another JUCO walk-on commit! F'n ********.

His little soap opera has stymied our recruiting and apparently our search for a competent DC also. He needs to either **** or get off the pot ASAP.

if you're a DC and you hook up with Mullen, you stand a pretty good chance of ending up at Florida.

Diaz and Mullen "will talk". Plan was to try to get together before the convention.

All you trashing this recruiting class are going to look really, really stupid if we end up landing even just Thompson, Robinson, Wells, Griffin, Humphrey, and Chris Hughes. Add Sanders and/or Brunetti, and you can just quit posting. This class is far from over, and according to rivals, we already have 4 4-stars. What did you expect given our last 2 seasons? Mullen isn't a miracle worker; this class is already better than most Croom brought in and it's only going to get better. Just calm down and wait until it's over.

on your list. We are now less than a month away from signing day. We're getting down to the nitty gritty and we need an announcement on a new DC & some positive momentum (commits) from some of these guys. Somewhat off-topic but flashing back to the Egg Bowl for a second. I wouldn't take a knee to be "classy" to our in-state rivals. I would relish the chance to point out to the in-state recruits how that beatdown was just the beginning of many to follow. I would have tried to hang 50 on them. Just being honest here.

I agree, we need to make a decision on a DC but I really don't think it will have much effect on recruiting. It will impact Thompson the most, and we'll have someone hired before he visits, so he'll be able to come in and talk to him right away. And yes, it's getting late in the recruiting process, but many of our big targets are still out there, so you can't really just say "it's late" and assume it'll be tough to get guys; our class comes together whenever our main targets make a decision, and some of them just haven't yet. Thompson and Sanders will likely come down to basically signing day, and Robinson might, too. Wells and Griffin, IMO, are being held until the 15th so they can publicly commit while some of our biggest targets are there, and we have a ton of guys coming in that weekend who are committed already, so the pressure will be on Brunetti, Thompson, Sanders, and Gates. We'll be fine in recruiting; I wouldn't worry too much.

And you might not take a knee, that's fine, but I'm glad Mullen did, and it has no effect on any of this. If that's one of your biggest beefs with Mullen, I'd feel pretty good about that.

1. Get AD a nice farewell TD.

2. So I could top the 45 from the year before.

3. It ain't our job to stop our offense.

I will be very, very happy.

I'm not putting too much stock into this footballscoop web site. I think Dan is taking a page from the Ninja and keeping this pretty secret for the most part.

I know if I weren't an MSU fan and had an offer from MSU but thought I might have a chance at the Georgia job, I'd probably be trying to delay giving an answer to MSU.

No doubt about it, Pat. There is a pecking order for these types of jobs. And unfortunately both OM and MSU are down the SEC and national pecking order.

I was just curious if the many "Meyer has ruined our recruiting" threads were sarcasm that my meter was missing or if some actually believed it.

We will end up with half those guys and we will be ok. If we get them all, it will be great. I am not down on Mullen, I just was hoping/expecting more momentum and for the lack of, I am dissappointed. But as far as Mullen and recruiting goes, I think we have more effort there than we have had in a decade. He will learn from this year and hopefully build a better mousetrap going forward.

would even come close to saying the Meyer situation has "ruined our recruiting". First off, our recruiting is going fine just maybe not quite as strong as we were hoping for given the upbeat nature of the program right now (Egg Bowl win, sell out crowds, improved offense etc.). But really, so far, we've only lost Newton from a list of players we thought we had a great shot to sign (but granted he was a big one). The Meyer situation certainly doesn't help us though. Prior to all this coming up I think most any recruit would believe that it was nearly guaranteed that Mullen would be here 3 to 4 years minimum. Now, if Meyer does decide to permanently step away, which nobody would have dreamed of before this came up, AND has a big say in his replacement, there is the real possibility that Mullen would be the guy they would go after for continuity in the program.
