For all of his mistakes, Marty is clearly the better option

He at least gives us potential with his ability to extend plays when the protection often breaks down. For that reason, I'd play him over Hilinski and am glad Fitz put him back in before half. Hilinski just doesn't have the awareness, pocket presence, or scrambling ability to work within this current offense. Maybe with an excellent O line he'd work, but not here and now.

All our qbs blow

This.

Honestly, I don't want to see Marty anymore. Put Richardson and Sullivan in. See what they can do. There are exceptional true freshmen from time to time that just play beyond their years. Maybe one of them is one of them.

Or even play Hunter again. Yeah, he was a basket case, but he still had the best game as an NU QB this year against Michigan State. If he can replicate that for once against the Illini, we will have a chance. I don't think I've seen anything from AM or RH to suggest that they are any better to be honest. None of them are capable of leading us to more than a score or two.

We need to do something. Scoring 14 points (or less) isn't going to cut it, even against Illinois. Not when our D no longer resembles anything we have ever seen under the Mike Hankwitz era that is now at an end.

The correct pick is Hilinski. Run Hull and throw play action deep balls to Malik and Steph. Hilinski is mobile enough to take four consecutive sacks, just like Marty.

Play football like it’s the 70s. Short passes are boring anyway.

(Ever looked at Terry Bradshaw’s numbers?)

I think you put people in positions to succeed. If a player has not been practicing with the starters, or doesn't know the offense, they are unlikely to be successful and you aren't doing anyone a favor by playing them.

Fitz isn't going to treat this game as a glorified scrimmage. He will do what he thinks gives the team the best chance to win.

I expect we will see a rotation between Marty and Hilinski next week, just as we did this week. Perhaps Richardson will see some reps, as he did earlier in the season, if the game is out of reach.

You don't want to see Hunter because he will light it up and you'll wonder what could have been. :)

Anything from 1900 on will suit me, if it works.

Does anyone know what Hunter did which was that much worse than what Marty and Hilinski have done--throw interceptions, get sacked multiple times, not score in the red zone?

I wonder the same thing. Their numbers are remarkably similar to one another. At the time it seemed to make sense to move on from Hunter and I understand that you can't prepare three guys at the same time to start. But I still wonder what the coaches saw/didn't see in Hunter.

I wonder. He went from hero to zero in one bad, albeit totally terrible, half of a game. Marty and Hilinski have been given multiple chances and even a rotation whereas Johnson went into a black hole.

I doubt Johnson was the answer. Given his physical talent, his winning the pre-season competition, and the play we've seen from the other guys, you'd think he'd have had another shot, though.

Neither Marty or Helinski is complete....Marty more mobile, Helinski stronger arm...watch him throw the out. and Johnson who probably was both did not seem to have the composure
