Why not come back this is so frustrating unless you hated Lexington and UK. This is the biggest basketball stage in the country. No need to look at other schools. Regardless of the coach we expect championships at this university. Give Pope a chance he will bring us #9.

It’s not uncommon for players/recruits to follow the coach who recruited/signed them. It’s just part of the process.

No need to get ugly about it. We grew up as lifelong UK fans. They likely did not.

Pope is literally gonna have some better byu players follow him here. I didn't see the OP upset about that.

You hope your incoming coach can keep a couple. Or your new coach brings guys with him.
Jaxson (sp) Robinson byu is the guy that'll replace one uk player loss. He is a real good one.
Maybe our star player... next year good

But they also surely saw that what we've been witnessing here for YEARS wasn't UK-first, but rather NBA-first. If they saw that and were latched onto that, that's just wrong, and I have zero sympathy. See ya, wouldn't want to be ya.

The decommits are protecting themselves in what is now an uncertain situation ie are they a fit w the new regime, are they wanted (I trust Pope to decide his preferred player profile and roster build)? They can’t afford to not investigate their options and I don’t blame them. Perhaps some will return.

They were coming here to play for Cal and to get to the league. That’s the pitch they were sold and bought into. It would take severe naivety to believe Cal’s recruits were coming to UK because they loved UK or cared one iota about our tradition.

No need to be a dick about it is my point.

It's sports. You're either friend or foe. You leave the team, you are foe. And those guys were part of the problem. It wasn't just Cal. I bet you thought Shady Sharpe really wanted to play, lol.

I do understand and agree with that perspective, they don't want to be left out in the cold without a team to play for if he decides they're not a good fit. It's interesting to me that the King - Beggar roles have headed in the other direction. Before, Cal was begging top recruits to come here because he could only win by out-talenting other teams. Not with smart play or experience. And now these guys are in a position where they're also being deemed appropriate for the system or not. Remember when Cal said that he wouldn't let a player hold his team (or him) hostage? That's literally all that has been happening for a very long time. Thank God that's not an issue anymore.

Honestly every player signed for us next year should decommit. They didn't sign up to play for Pope. They should open up their recruitment again and talk to other coaches, Pope included. If they want to buy into his system and play for UK then they should recommit, but if not it's fine. The vast majority of players these days commit to coaches and not really schools.

Yeah, I have no ill feelings toward any of them. They need to do what's best for them, as everyone should. I don't get on Twitter very often, but I've been out there lately following events, and there is a lot of vitriol flying around from different fan bases and pundits. I don't get involved in it, but it's a bit ugly at times.
Hope you find what you want. I think this thing we are restarting could be special...but I understand it isn't your dream. God bless you. Good luck

I guess in your day to day job you don't want your employer to pay you the most you can get huh? lol Unfortunately, the days of playing for a college just because you love that college are over. It's all about the MONAY now. lol
