Did The Mule garner any mention or merit ? It was the only movie made that was worth a damn imo with the exception of the Queen music perhaps. I'll sure miss Clint when he is done

I watched most of the the show and The Mule was only mentioned aa couple of times as a nominated film. The revies I read on the movie were so-so as the story was unbelievable, Eastwood's character was unlikeable and that the family baggage was too great for his character to overcome for any kind of decent closure or reconciliation.

I did see a few of the movies nominated and there were some pretty good ones you are missing out on. Green Book, The Favourite, First Man and Bohemian Rhapsody were all very, very good. I saw Vice and wanted to like it, but it couldn't decide if it was going to be a serious bio-pic on Cheney or if it was going to put a new spin on history during the Bush-Cheney era. I thought Christian Bale was outstanding, but the story was a bit convoluted. Most conservatives will probably hate it since it does take some shots at Bush and Cheney (and his wife).

You do realize The Mule was based on a true story and maybe that's how the real guy was ? I wanted to see First Man but read some reviews that were critical...

Yes, I read that The Mule was based on a real person and that the reviews were mixed. I get that they did not want to portray him in a positive light due the nature of his work and the dysfunction that he created within his family. Hard to make a working man hero out of a drug smuggler who abandons his family.

First Man was excellent, although very depressing. It only covered about an 8 year period in Buzz Aldrin's life and centered on his relationship with his wife during and after he loss of his daughter to leukemia. An underlying theme was the loss of many of the test pilots and astronauts he knew and flew with. A lot of the space capsule scenes were very dark and used a lot of "shaky cam," so it was a bit distracting.

Actually, many do give a ****. Hollywood’s influence is part of the dumbing down process.

I like movies; this is Oscars month on TCM, later The Graduate is on but past my bedtime. "Plastics" would have been the ticket. I hate how the industry has been so radicalized in the last 40+ years since LBJ got us into Nam & tricky Dick got us out and a whole lot of any/everything since.
