I like to see the other guys coming back. I hope they don’t get litigious trying to get immediate reinstatement. Sounds like Reed is going to play the year on the world tour. That’s a decent way to spend time in exile.

I’m a bit of an equipment junkie, at least in terms of reading about new releases and it’s that time of year. Anybody planning on getting new clubs this year? What looks good to you?

I am least thinking about a new driver. The new Callaway certainly appeals to me.

I got a new set of the Titleist T250 irons that came in a few weeks ago and thanks to this weather I haven't even been able to hit a single ball yet.

I updated my irons and driver last summer so I'm not looking to do anything new this year. I will say I got a Callaway driver last year (Elyte) and I have nothing but great things to say about it. Go for it.

I need new clubs. I'm playing some old Mizuno JPX E-Z's that are about a decade old and I wasn't fit for. I've liked them, but my swing speed has definitely slowed down in the last two years and I feel like I probably need to get fit for an upgrade.

Thanks. I want to also try the new Cobra driver. It’s gotten great reviews.

I'm still gaming a 22 year old set of Mizuno MP-32 blades that I bought new in 2004. Every time I think about changing I have second thoughts. They're still so pure.

Is the offset as minimal as it looks? Looks like an old blade at address in the link photo.

Good sticks. I played a set of Hogan Apex blades for 15 years and switched about 8-9 years ago, but still go back for the feel occasionally. If I hadn't lost a bit of distance with age I'd probably stick with them.

Yes the offset is very minimal and that is what drew me to that model. I had been playing the T100's for the last several years and these are touted to be more forgiving plus they look more like a classic blade which I played for many years. Of course the proof will be in how they hit since I am still yet to hit the first ball.

I'm a junkie too. I love January because of all the new releases. I've already changed putters and plan to change irons by mid February. I'm looking at the new Mizuno M series and the Ping i240's. I change drivers almost every year, but haven't seen anything interesting yet.

As had been the recent expectation, LIV finally gets their OWGR ranking points...

Only the Top 10 each week will be awarded points, which seems like a reasonable compromise considering the weak and exclusive fields.

Points only matter for Majors or Ryder Cup, right?

So the number of points matters greatly. So:

The winner of this week's LIV Golf event in Saudi Arabia is projected to earn about 23 world-ranking points, which is less than half of what winners in PGA Tour full-field events receive. The runner-up will get about 13.4 points.

In last week's Farmers Insurance Open on the PGA Tour, Justin Rose captured about 61 world-ranking points for his victory, and 74 golfers picked up at least .55 points.

World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler collected 69.2 world-ranking points when he won the American Express on Jan. 25 because of the strength of the field.

And of course LIV is bitching that they deserve more points.

The serious/better LIV players also play in DP Tour events so between getting points there and at LIV events where the competition is small in numbers and quality, they will have a solid opportunity to earn points and qualify for the majors. This will probably allow them to cut back on DP events if they choose.

One way to out yourself on whether you still care about competing in Majors is whether you're complaining about LIV going to 4 rounds or not. Good players should want as many rounds as possible, because it gives the cream more time to rise to the top.

Complainers like Westwood, Oosty, etc. clearly don't care about competing in Majors anymore so they just want as much money for as little work as possible. Guys like Rahm and BDC are pretty indifferent, because they're going to be in the majors regardless. But if you're someone like Talor Gooch and you believe you're a Top 10 LIV player, you should be thrilled about going to four rounds because you'll be more likely to finish in the Top 10 and get the OWGR points.

Pumped for another WPO this week. Probably a Top 2 or 3 favorite non-major for me every year. I just love the desert views, the atmosphere, the strong field, and them saving me from having to watch 8 hours of pre-game Super Bowl coverage on Sunday.

Looks like we might get some weather good enough to get a couple rounds in next week. I played once in December and not at all in January. I hope to just find the club face once I do get to play.

Bridgeman hits second onto the beach at 18, hits third off concrete, goes back to spot of second shot in fairway and gets a 6.

Ridiculous that took so much time when the winners stood in the fairway for 20 minutes.

Did you guys notice the silence when Colt gave a shout-out to AK on his win?

You could've heard a pin drop.

The nose I understand, but I can't figure out what happened to his left eye?

Regardless, what an awesome story for it to happen at LIV's only successful event and against two of the five best golfers in the world. LIV couldn't have scripted that any better. Really cool moment for AK.

Which Tar Heel alum had the more interesting day?
David Ford - had a triple bogey on 17, birdied 18, parred 1, and then proceeded to chip in 3 straight holes (Eagle, Eagle, par).
Ryan Gerard - hit a bird off the tee on a par 3 Randy Johnson style and still ended up on the dance floor 10 feet or so for birdie.

It isn’t always good, but when it is, TGL is a really fun weeknight watch. Sunday night’s Jupiter Links-NY match went to OT was really fun, but tonight was by far the best moment in TGL history.

Jup and Bay playing for the final playoff spot. Jup down 6-3 with three holes left. Throw a two point hammer and win on hole 13 to make it 6-5. Then it happened. Throw another one on the 14th tee, a 130 yard par three. Tom Kim made a dramatic ace and Tiger and Co. go absolutely nuts. Jup goes up one and Kis holds serve over Wyndham on the final hole to secure the win for Jup.

I understand it’s not for everyone and they have things they still need to improve, but that’s as good as Tuesday night golf can get.

I watched the Bay Jupiter match becasue it was on after our bball game, and what a fun time.

I know its not everyone’s cup of tea, and like you said there are things they could improve, but I have rreally enjoyed it.

Tom Kim’s hole in one was electric. insane. I was pulling for Jup the whole night so to see the comeback in single/individual holes at the end was a lot of fun.

They flashed a graphic that teams with a lead were 13-0 or 14-0 heading into those individual holes this season. Clutch play by Kis, Max and Tom made that 13-1 or 14-1.

Will look forward to playoffs

^I tried again last night after our game. I can’t do it. I’ve even played with one of those guys years ago. It’s just not for me and that’s okay. There is no denying the growth of simulator golf. I believe 40% of the “new golfers” last year were simulator only, but even my wife (who doesn’t play) will tell you it’s not real golf.
