If it wasn't for the whole dog school ordeal I still think they would have never been able to get him....

Edgy, perhaps that was the most visible item on the list, but there are a lot of other items in the indictment.
Right, WIU?

Oh trust me I know but the dog training program no question caught the most attention....

Bwm57..plenty of issues with how the district was run as you and your friend Ann are aware. The interesting aspect of the dog training facility is the principal at the campus denied knowing anything about it but a certain board member at the time was roasted because he was unaware of the same. The population voted for two new schools to be built. The proposal passed, schools were built, the growth died along with the economy and Wylie tried to save face by hook or by crook...emphasis on the later. It was evident during construction that four schools were not required but who pulls the plug on that when the money is already in hand? The closed campus, or the other new school were open for way too long...if in fact they both should have been built. It is easy to look back and see that decisions were made, voted on, and passed based on emotion and greed. Were you not proud of the four "state of the art" sports facilities and educational facilities Bwm? Did you not brag to your park district buddies and social friends how great things were in LW DIst. 210? There is a TON of blame to go around starting with Wylie. Edgy is very in tune with the situation and has presented his opinion that another LW school could be closed as well. Bwm57 don't question my comments as protection for the wrongs, my ire is based on the techniques used by many on social media to stop at no cost in roasting individuals who did not see eye to eye with the daily floating agenda on SLN. Even the taxpayers united group imploded due to ego intoxication. The worst event of the entire situation to date is the suicide of a prominent supporter of OUR community.
Bwm...sorry for the ramble. We have more in common and agree on some of the very topics that have been debated. As a fellow Leatherneck, character should be front and center in dealing with human beings. Those who have cast stones at innocent individuals should not be tolerated in any form. Wylie is not one of the innocent...now let the judicial system take over before the celebration on Harlem takes place.

In another life, I had dealings with numerous districts and public sector debt. I remember being astonished at the amount of debt the Lincoln Way district had. The sad thing about the Wylie legacy? The district will be burdened by unnecessary debt for decades to come.

And if convicted, I hope Wyllie spends the rest of his days behind bars and his pension is revoked. I remember the LW people I am acquainted with, bragging about passing the referendum and telling me we were too cheap in Lockport to build a new school and didn't care about education. Who looks foolish now?? You have a building not yet 10 years old sitting empty. The warning signs were there for a recession and a housing market collapse as early as 2003. Those warnings grew louder in 2005.

Enrollment projections in the LW district were off as early as fiscal 2006. But they got the referendum passed anyway. I know that's only part of this tangled web.

The line (among others) I find very interesting in the Herald News is "Wyllie was highly respected in the Lincoln-Way community and considered 'an absolute genius in school financing' by former board President Ron Kokal." He may have been a genius to some people. But just when you think you are smarter than everyone else, someone a little smarter than you comes along.

They really only needed one school but those communities would not have voted for only one school. Very fractured.

There is a special spot in a deep dark place for people like this. And yet, he will somehow get to keep his pension.

If I remember correctly he has the highest pension in the state, as far as educators go. A good portion of that might get eatin up by legal fees. Also he is shy of 80. We will have to see how this all plays out.

Funny when my kids were in Lincoln-way Only 1 school at the time, there was a joke about Wylie's license plate.
LWHS, some people thought it meant Larry Wylie's High School

Finally!!!

Other Wyllie Classics (besides the dog training):
- Signing a 10 year contract with Aunt Nancy's Daycare - rent free
- Charging $ 30,000.00 on his business credit card as his term was coming
to an end
- Spending $ 5,000,000.00 on land in Manhattan for Lincoln Way South and
earning $ 200,000 in commissions for that sale
- Pension $ 312,000.00 a year

This won't help the Lincoln Way System now or reopen LWN but maybe under better scrutiny the Lincoln Way schools will start to flourish once again. One can only hope!

Badfrog, I'm far from a Wyllie supporter, but I believe, allegedly, it was not Wyllie but a past LW 210 school board member who earned the almost $200,000 real estate commission for the future school land purchase.
