Snedneger's (SP ?) switch from HS QB to college LB was pretty dramatic. One of my most favorite "recent players" was Braxton Kelly. Came in as an undersized defensive tackle and I believe started 3 years at ILB. 110%-er. IIRC made the big tackle against LSU to seal one of UK's greatest wins.

Peace

Probably the most bizarre one is Doug Pelphry came in as a DB and left one of our best kickers ever.

Jared Lorenzen moving from OG to QB

oh, wait....[winking]

in all seriousness, Eric Scott moved from TE to OC (he was on that same line w/Zipp Duncan, right?)

From 2010 - 2012, every wide receiver was a converted qb. And everyone else used to be a tight end.

A lot of HS QBs are playing QB mainly becasue they are the best athlete on the team, especially small high schools, so it isn't unusual to recruit guys that play QB for other positions. Kash Daniel played linebacker but he also was the starting QB for his HS team.

Guess this is meant for guys who changed positions after arriving at UK but thought I'd mention 2 who had great success after UK and while in the NFL. Jeff Van Note came to UK as a RB/LB but was moved to C by the Falcons. Dermontti Dawson was originally a G but the Steelers made a C out of him. Both enjoyed remarkable careers as each were All-Pro/HoF types. Takes great athletes and tremendous dedication to make those moves.

Years ago when colleges would sign 40+ guys a year it wasn't unusual for some to sign 10, 12, 15 "QBs" a year with the thought being those guys were generally the best athletes on the team. Schools would then move them to RB, WR, DB, etc. Happened a lot.

Re Snedeger...he was a good player but there's many past UK LBs who were much better. Jeff Brady, Dean Wells, Chris Chenault, Kelly Kirchbaum, Joe Federspiel come to mind plus the best UK LB in my lifetime, Jim Kovach.

Add Burton to that list, and UL recruited him as a DB but didn't offer when he preferred them at the time, also our QB for the Thug U upset made the switch back to QB on a weeks notice, King was one of the ones you cited.

Leger made the switch from DT to OL and did very well until suspended for the bowl game.

We're talking about players that moved from Defense to Offense and vice versa.

Cobb was an ATH on offense. Literally could play anywhere, anytime.

We could've used him on the defensive side of the ball sometimes too. He would've made a good Cornerback or Safety.

Zipp Duncan and Larod King were both from Hardin County where I grew up. Larod played some QB for North Hardin and Zipp played TE I believe (Etown was state runner-up that year).

Yes, Andre was from North. Some others from that era in Hardin County were Brandon Deaderick who ended up at Alabama and played with the Patriots and Jaguars and also Chris Todd who was Auburns starting QB for a season.
