Because he averaged 9PPG on a really bad Tulane team.

Not hard to put 2 and 2 together on that one. NBA drafts on potential, not off the production they can offer right now.

Unless he takes a MASSIVE leap this summer, we better hope he's a bench piece.
Otega averaged 5 as a fr and 11 as a soph before UK.
Up 6 ppg at UK.
You saying this kid can’t follow suit without a MASSIVE leap?

Add a PG (Dent) next week and we may be done with our backcourt for next season.

PG Dent (or ?)/Lewis/Perry
SG Oweh/Johnson
SF Chandler/Williams/Noah

Then the focus goes to getting some size.

Need a couple of PFs and another C, most likely.

After that, just try to get the best available?
I've actually come around to the idea that Dent is the better fit.

The more this UCLA drama drags on, the more I think it's going to be Smith. My understanding is Mark Pope has a crap ton of money, and was ready to win a big bidding war. The fact that we're not just going over the top to outbid UCLA tells me Pope has another GOOD option.

There was a post on another message board about the internal discussions of the Purdue collective. They're nervous. They're trying to find more money fast.

TLDR: Mark Pope intends to have Smith or Dent running this team next year.

I look for Pope to have the best transfer portal haul in the country this offseason! Looks really good on Dent as well. Would be amazing to get that dude!
Getting Dent would be gigantic now, too The team is gonna be a top 5, 10 at worst next year with what Coach Pope is gonna put together.

Getting kam at the wing is a critical piece I was thinking might be an area we might come away lacking, but it's addressed in the roster right here. Athletic and smooth. Good fit for what we need. Can grow too. I really like him.

I think a great fit ! Very excited !

Yeah saw this one coming after his comments

Let’s gooooooo…really like his game. 3 & D type of guy.

And three more years at minimum. Maybe even four more years if the NCAA approves the permanent fifth year of eligibility.

This kid, Lewis, Chandler, Noah, and hopefully Perry could be the glue to a very special era of Kentucky basketball.

And if Kentucky ends up with either one of those options, they've automatically got one of the top three point guards in the nation next year.

It's a great position to be in if Kentucky can actually pull it off, which I think they will.

Mark Sears freshman season, he averaged 8.5 PPG.
His sophomore year, he averaged 20.

I'm not saying Williams will average 20. But "Only averaged 9 points per game as a freshmen" doesn't mean a ton IMO. I think his length and athleticism will make him an elite defender. He's a 40% shooter (and he shoots it 4.5 times per game). He's got the athleticism to get to and finish at the rim. If he doesn't start, then we got ANOTHER amazing wing, and we're just going to be absurd next year.

Type of dude Bama has in spades this year. Goon length to play multiple positions and switch everything , athletic, can fill the basket up, can handle well enough to be a multi level scorer
Watching his highlights, that's exactly what I thought. Looks like the type of player Bama had this year that gave us so much trouble.

Williams said that others were waiting to take that spot and he did not want to lose it. So did we line up 4 three guys in the order we wanted them or told them all whoever commits first? Does this mean that Wilkerson is out or are they wanting him at the two?
Say that skinny high school kid is out

Excellent news! This kid has some crazy upside. I could see him playing 2-4, depending on the need.

Last year, Pope recruited from the portal (name and ranking):
Garrison #20
Oweh #31
Robinson #33
Butler #44
Carr #67
Williams #84
Brea #87
Kriisa #122

...and you see how he developed and used them. Trust that Pope is going to get guys who fit our system and elevate our team.
Crazy that Brea was 87th rated and hes best shooter in college.

Imagine a scenario of having Dent, Johnson, Oweh on the court and Kam Williams as a backup 2 or 3 with also having him on the court with those 3 at the same time playing a small ball 4. We're gonna have some studs next season.

Rankings don't mean much, Kenny Walker was ranked at about the 75th best player in the country and Billy Thompson that went to Louisville was in the top 10, we see how that worked out. This kid looks exactly like the type of player that will fit right in Pope's system, and he's bound to get better with the natural progression you have from year to year.

Just go small with Williams as the 4, especially if we end up with Gwath!

Yeah there is no way I would bag on a kid averaging 9ppg as a freshman. Is he Cooper Flagg, of course not. Not many freshman are. But this kid looks like a diamond in the rough. It is a win-win situation for us. If he comes in and makes a giant leap, we got a great player who helps us become a contender. If he struggles to adapt to a high major, the kid has 3 years of eligibility. I love this pick up.

I alluded to that in an earlier post. Smith is a Purdue kid born and bred. He's a legend there. Is he just using these rumors as leverage to get more NIL from Purdue?

Freshman Non primary ball handlers do not score huge in college. Just look at AD. He averaged 12.7 points a game for UK, MKG was like 9.9 and both were drafted first round. No matter the competition, college ball is about the guards. They have the ball most of all. Not saying this guy is Jamal Mashburn, but also not saying he is Richard Masterblaster Madison. He has size, he is not a twig, has strength and can shoot the dang ball. Not afraid to drive not afraid to play defense. He will be a big addition to next years team.
Also, I think Mash averaged like 10 to 12 ppg as a freshman. Again not saying WIlliams can make the just Jamal did. But am not worried about his ppg. Him playing 32 minutes means he can play and not foul. That is a good thing. Because by the clips I have seen he is aggressive.

This the type of player that we always wanted and never got under Cal. He will be sophomore , 6’8 with long arms, can shoot, needs to work on conditioning but reminds me of JR …. He dev.oped and gre as player under Pope.

This guy has a chance by his jr or sr year to be a nba player if stays humble , puts the work, in Pope ‘ system.

Welcome to BBN!
