What he established here in his time, now forever lost to history. All anybody around my age and younger knows as far as men's basketball is concerned at South Carolina is bottom feeder and everybody's senior day opponent.
Indeed; that’s our MO. Prissy and too big for our britches.Had George Felton been left alone (who cares that he loved the bottle), our fortunes would have been different.
How did we "run off" a guy that wanted to retire the year before?Steve Spurrier
Spinning in his grave for decades... he must have made it to the center of Earth by now.
That crashed and burned two short years later as well.So fortunate to be in school during the 96-97 seasons. They both ended brutally and I know where I was both losses. Add them to the list that includes 9/11, the challenger and Columbine.
Same here, totally agree, I think even Clemson fans liked the teams McGuire had when Roach , Owen’s, Ribock , Cremins , and many others playedI am a Carolina fan today because of McGuire.I was 12-13 during the Roche-Owens years and attended camp 3 times. Those guys were heroes to all of us unlike really anybody else I’ve seen in S.C. sports.
I remember all the ACC games
and the rivalry with NC and later Lefty and Md.
Even after Carolina left the ACC the rivalry with Marquette coached by Al McGuire was great.
i even remember when Kevin Joyce had an incredible 2nd half and Carolina came back and beat Bobby Knight and Indiana.Knight was so pissed he threw a chair through a window at CAE.My first taste of the infamous Bobby Knight temper.
You’re a couple years behind me, I was in high school. I attended a clinic/workshop at the coliseum with McGuire, Buck Freeman, and a couple other college coaches where they used the gamecock team to demonstrate the various strategies and techniques. Being on the court with those guys was petrifying. I took two shots all day, one because Bob Carver told me to that went in ugly, and the other an air ball later on.I am a Carolina fan today because of McGuire.I was 12-13 during the Roche-Owens years and attended camp 3 times. Those guys were heroes to all of us unlike really anybody else I’ve seen in S.C. sports.
