Horrible developer of talent. It's not really tough to get guys to the NFL when you're mostly signing 4* kids. A toddler could tell you they have talent.
I was kind of done when we opened the Oregon game with a reverse run with the WR (Pena?) then have Allar split out at WR on the second play. Typical big game gimmicky horseshit.

I don't think JF was a horrible coach. However, I think he tolerated mediocrity too much. I don't like the sloppiness and how undisciplined his teams were. Also, the worst thing is, over 12 years he did not want to make changes to improve his coaching. We still saw the same weaknesses in his teams thru the years. QBs did not improver, OL blocking did not improve, in game coaching did not improve. It seems he expected players to adjust to his schemes instead of adjust his schemes to the players he has. He is a good coach, not a great coach. He seems stubborn that if he keeps doing things the same way they will eventually work.

Doesn’t matter. Apparently 0.800 is the acceptable minimum. After all, anyone with a 0.750 can win 409 if you let them hang around long enough.
Can't they? If you let any coach at a major program hang around long enough won't they? If Smart was at Georgia as long as Paterno was at Penn State how many wins do you think he'd end his career with?

Most guys just know when it's time.

but that speaks to the cannot properly use that talent while here. One of my biggest concerns all along is we putting guys in pros who are very successful there, but that pro success not reflected in college record

If Barkley and Parsons were not Penn Staters Franklin would have been gone years ago.
If Ham, Onkotz, Smear et al were not at Penn State, that Paterno fella may have had a short run.

He should have had a shorter run anyway. He is still holding this program back. That selfish jerk was too focused on his "409". Fitting that his legacy is in the shiithouse.

Sounds like Franklin is about to be inked at Virginia Tech..
Smart move by him. Not the pressure of the SEC and following Brent Prys career there not hard to surpass that low bar with win totals.... He will look like an all star hire.... As soon as he gets 8 wins VT admin will have Big Game James knocking on their door demanding a new contract.

- Horrible at picking + retaining coaching talent
- Horrible at developing players
- Horrible at coaching / developing offensive line
- Horrible at coaching / developing tackling
- Horrible at recruiting linebackers
- Horrible eye for talent
- Horrible at in-game adjustments in the first half
- Horrible with the press
- Horrible off a bye week & against tougher opponents

If it wasn’t for Trace McSorely, Saquon Barkley, and Tyler Warren, his record would be atrocious

The guy won 104 games at PSU (and 70% of his games). That takes more than 3 players, and is a pretty impressive feat for a guy that can't recruit, can't find good coaches, and can't develop any players.
Eeeeh. Not really.

The disparity in player talent across college football is significant. The vast majority of the players are never going to sniff a Sunday snap.

If you have a team that has a couple of first rounders on it, you can beat MOST of your opponents in any given year. Sometimes, all it takes is having one alien on your roster, and he just carries the team (Ashton Jeanty, anyone?).

So yeah, it easily could have been as simple as getting a handful of guys to come to Happy Valley, and you feed those guys and beat all of the Wildcats, and Boilermakers, and Illini, and Terps, and Scarlet Knights, and Spartans, and 3 junior college OOC teams year in and year out, and there's your 9 wins.

The problem is when you never upset anyone.

So you're suggesting that coaches do better when the players are good? I never considered that.

All i can say is for the tOSU game for me is that I'm having a surgical procedure Thursday and will be on opiod pain killers during the game.
Or better yet, reschedule the surgical procedure at kickoff time.
