Hard to imagine what they have to laugh about. If he was that bad, how did he make them and Locksley look like a high school team time after time. Remember when they canceled classes on Friday and then they got destroyed?
His coaching stints at Maryland were the focus of their comments. They thought he sucked as a coordinator and position coach.

They keep talking about him to V Tech - after their Pry experience I wonder if that is just smoke and mirrors - he certainly won't be winning a Natty there even in the weak ACC.

Tons of rumors out there that Franklin is about to be announced at VTech's next head coach.

It will be interesting to see who from the current staff and roster he attempts to bring with him. There may be some regional ties that could help being in Virginia. But a pretty significant step down in terms of stature - ACC is a tier 2 conference, smaller salary pool, and Tech hasn't be relevant since the early 2000s. High school and college kids weren't even alive during the Vick days. Can't imagine their NIL is competitive either.

Franklin could be a thorn in the side on the recruiting trail for a lot of those tweener 3/4* guys.
That's the right level job for him

Guy who took a program in dark times, won way more than he lost, but couldn't get PSU over the hump. Decent coach and seems like a decent guy. He had to fight PSU admin to move the program forward and fans that still think it's 1986 and PSU is entitled to a MNC so a new HC will simply be that easy fix for that. The program had fallen behind in facilities, budgets, coaching numbers, and recruiting the decade prior to his arrival.

PSU has the greatest and some of the dumbest fans around. JF fell flat with a seasoned team and deserved to go now, but I still recall a coach falling flat for 4 years in 5 and people were still giving that guy chance after chance to right the ship......the best thing about hypocrites....they wear it proudly.
Who was the 4/5 year failure coach you are referring?

Problem is, Franklin wasn't successful. He could manipulate the truth though.
Name all of the other BT coaches more successful during his run.....should be a really long list. Day, Meyer, Harbaugh****(cheated). The guy never got PSU over the top, but it's pretty clear that you're some new dolt or recycled dolt is is touching himself about this....which is cool. He did get PSU to a national semi and did win a BT title....but you're still going on about him. Funny you joined back up just as he left....have it stooge. Buh Bye. Reasons why Tom's board sometimes is just the worst at times...great example.

He was successful beating who he should except in the end. He consistently tanked against ranked teams

If Franklin is jumping at Va Tech it tells me he is taking the first offer, bird in hand, so to speak. He wants to coach again quickly, get started ASAP and doesn't want to wait around to see if Auburn or FSU opens up. Or possibly Sexton put feelers out there to both Auburn and FSU and they said "not that interested".

woah.... im just as unhappy as the next person with how this all ended, but this guy took a team from the gutter post-sanction and brought it to perennial 10 win seasons in arguably the hardest division (tOSU, scUM) in the sport.

i completely and totally disagree with your premise.
I’m disagreeing it was the gutter. Yes, sanctions certainly hurt. BUt, they won seven games W/ BOB.

Loser hire by that bum Dave Joyner. People are saying a DEI hire. Sandy as well.
You're the only imbecile that I've ever heard refer to Franklin as a "DEI Hire". Even those that are racist have been able to hold back from bringing their racism to the board, with this exception.

There are a lot worse coaches than Franklin IMO. I have followed college football for decades and I believe that Franklin is one of the better coaches who have been around. You could do a lot worse. He was an outstanding recruiter, seemed like a good leader, and he did pull PSU out of the doldrums.

Watching him from the perspective of an outsider, it seemed like his biggest issue was that he always seemed to be wrapped too tight in big games. The man isn't stupid. And it's not like he was getting blown away by the competition or the games were lopsided affairs. He almost always played competitive most of the game. Then he would get real conservative. It's like he would suddenly start making decisions like he was trying to not lose the game rather than trying to win it. I think there was a mental component involved. The more he lost big games, the more he became anxious about losing another.

During the Franklin years, we typically finished where our recruiting rankings finished.

And I think Franklin’s recruiting fell off a bit the last couple of years. There are some rumors out there that Kraft was frustrated with Franklin’s recruiting, given that the budget was much bigger than Franklin wanted to give out to unproven high school kids.

Franklin seems to have died on his own sword - reward your current roster, conservative in the portal, don’t overspend on high school recruits. Kraft seems to be ready to spend and he doesn’t seem worried about upsetting the roster.

The guy who took a National Brand, and turned it into a laughing stock in record time.

Well... It took him 11 years.... for whatever that might be worth...

Funniest part yet? In his interview with Saban the other week, he proclaimed that, "we will go win a national championship somewhere else."

Anyone else belly laugh so much that their abs hurt the next day, or was that just me?

Several years ago while attending the Penn State Vs Maryland game at M & T Bank Stadium, Tgar and his brother engaged some civil Maryland fans in a conversation regarding Franklin. They were laughing and being good natured. Tgar can still recall how they said it will not end well and his history speaks for itself.

Well, here we are and they Most certainly are laughing. Of course, Tgar looks forward to the announcement that Franklin is their new Head Coach so he too can laugh as well………

What about Jimmy?

Franklin was the right guy for the program when he was hired. He brought enthusiasm to a program that desperately needed it after the sanctions. He worked the recruiting trail and brought in talented players, culminating in a Big Ten championship in 2016.

IMO, his downfall here at PSU was not following the blueprint that got him a BT title in 2016: dual-threat QB and aggressive playcallingAfter Moorhead and McSorley left, the PSU offense began to slowly go downhill. Now we’re over 1.5 seasons where we can’t complete passes to wide receivers.

If the rumors are true, Franklin struggled to manage the portal and NIL, choosing to spend on retention. Which lead to players questioning why other players were making more than them, and so on.

Bottom line is he couldn’t “clean up” the persistent issues, and it was time to move on.

Fair assessment. I would also add that I don't believe he himself ever imparted any identity onto his team (key term, "his"). He seemed to go after the brightest shiny object and gave that to them.
