I thought they were going to scoop up Beamer. Should we pull a UGA and fire Beamer now?

I am convinced all head coaching hires are essentially a crapshoot, but this feels like the closest thing to a homerun hire Va. Tech could have pulled off.
You mean the VT fans won't be saying the prior coach destroyed the program and left him nothing and he needs at least 5 years to turn the program around? I thought that was a given when a new coach was hired. They'll win the ACC or at least be in the ACCCG by year 3.
These days, no player retention is guaranteed anyway, which means coaches are also free to turn the whole team over if they work it right. You mean the VT fans won't be saying the prior coach destroyed the program and left him nothing and he needs at least 5 years to turn the program around? WHY ?I thought they were going to scoop up Beamer. Should we pull a UGA and fire Beamer now?

1) VT's program is at a crossroads after back to back bad hires. After a very recent sizable commitment to the program, it is extremely doubtful they are going to pursue a HC with a record barely above .500 . Namesake or not.Its how he got the job here. (2)
As of 9:56 am, this is not been finalized. Not sure where the OP got his information. Is this finalized?
I think he was being facetious.WHY ?
Last Name ?
There's a link in the OP (and here). Not finalized, but looking good... (69% chance of happeningAs of 9:56 am, this is not been finalized. Not sure where the OP got his information.
Any coach would be a hero at SC for 8 wins a year on the regular. I don’t think there’s much pressure to win here, if a coach went .500 for his career he’s safe. Talk of Beamer being fired only happens on the internet and if he wins 6 next season he won’t be fired.Thinking about it, if I am a coach looking to take a P4 job, I probably don't really want a job at a big time SEC program like Auburn, SC, LSU, UF, Arkansas, etc.. The pressure to win at those places is incredible and the margin for error is razor thin. A coach like Chesney or Chadwell can go to a VT or similar ACC or B1G program and be a hero if he consistently wins 8 games a year and throws in an upset over a top team every couple of years. The money is really academic. How much better can a coach and his family live on $6million a year at a big SEC program vs. $3million a year at a lower tier program?
I guess ego is what drives some of these coaches to want the high profile jobs.
Consistently winning 8 games a year at SC is much harder than winning 8 games at VT or Pitt. That is why I think coaches are going to start thinking twice about jumping on SEC jobs. The 9 SEC game schedule will mean that every SEC team is likely going to face 4 or 5 ranked teams every season, not counting any ranked OOC teams they might play. An ACC team might only face one ranked team in a season.Any coach would be a hero at SC for 8 wins a year on the regular. I agree with the point you’re making tho, overall. The biggest metric at most places is getting to the postseason, and now the whole focus is the playoff. As the playoff grows, making it will essentially be like making a bowl game used to be and it will feel like it matters. Even though when you’re the 24th seed it won’t as far as the intent of the playoffs. But that will bring solid paydays at any school.
If the latter is true, then Franklin ain't no done deal....I took a look at a VT site (Fighting Goblers haha) and they said there is smoke, but no fire yet. The writer stated
they are looking hard at Chesney from JMU.
Will this one go to 11?But my count this is about the 10th time Virginia Tech has hired him.
I think the evidence bears this out. Any opinion that uses homerun as an adjective gives me tired head.I am convinced all head coaching hires are essentially a crapshoot, but this feels like the closest thing to a homerun hire Va. Tech could have pulled off.
I should have put it in quotes to denote that it's not my preferred adjective either.I think the evidence bears this out. Any opinion that uses homerun as an adjective gives me tired head.
This is a good move for him. Hopefully he can improve this program so there is more competition with Clemson.I thought they were going to scoop up Beamer. Should we pull a UGA and fire Beamer n
Lower expectations than South Carolina? Hokies have had way more success.Easier schedule, lower expectations, more job security
