Updates coming up 7:30 kick!

Lost my feed but the Bulldogs go 3 & out then Panthers score first 7-0.

Murphy driving now. Panthers scoop & score from about the Franklin 15. 14-0 with about 5 minutes left 1Q

Murphy drives down & scores on a 4th & 4 from 19 yds out pat no good 14-6 late 1Q

Panthers march down & score again....not a lot of D in this one so far! 21-6 11:53 2Q

Murphy drives deep but fumbles again & the Panthers are on the move again. Couple penlaties force a punt.

Panthers D stiffens for a 3 & out. 1 play later & the Panthers score on a 39 yd run. 28-6

Murphy drives down but runs out of downs right before the half. Halftime 28-6 Panthers

Murphy D stiffens to start the 3rd with a 3 & out. Murphy starts on their 46.

Murphy driving just inside the 10. After getting to the 5 the Panthers D stiffens & The Dogs face a 4th and goal from the 15.......Murphy scores on a pretty play in tight coverage. (Jackson Perone Franklin's QB who plays DB is down) appears to be cramps. 2pt conv good 28-14 Panthers with 4:34 in the 3Q

Soph QB in for Franklin so a heavy dose of run coming. Panthers down to the Dogs 34. Panthers can't keep it going Murphy ball late 3Q.

Murphy driving with a 3rd down in Franklin territory to start the 4th. Panthers hold.

Panthers grinding out yardage and running clock in the 4th. Dogs get the ball back but are running out of time.

Franklin puts this one to bed with a 43yd TD run pat no good 34-14 late 4Q.

Final: Franklin 34 Murphy 14

Franklin by two TDs. They played Asheville tough on the road last Friday and the Murphy game is at the Pit. I'm to the point now where I will have to see Murphy beat Franklin before I believe it can actually happen. Murphy did look good against Hendo and I do think they have a shot at having a great season though. I just don't think they can beat Franklin. I just hope they play tough, improve, and come out healthy.

I'm just not quite sure Asheville is as good as their preseason press dictated....I mean Franklin lost a whole whole lot from last year, and still gave Asheville everything they wanted....Murphy like Asheville also lost a ton to graduation, but they do return 2 very capable QBs who if given the time to throw, may have more success than Asheville who is primarily a running team.....

As with most rivalry games, you can throw out the records, and I think this is one of those rivalry games which meets that criteria...It's always going to be difficult for opposing teams to win in "the Panther Pit", but Murphy has done that before, and I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see it happen again on friday....

Good luck to them little ole 1A Bulldogs from Murphy!

If Murphy plays at the level they played against Hendersonville, they may raise a few eyebrows from the Franklin faithful. Not saying the Dogs will come away with the win, but they could make it very interesting. I think Murphys level of play against Hendersonville came as a surprise to most, if not every Murphy fan.

I expect nothing but the best from Murphy. Outside of the 4 turnovers and a couple of key mistakes, Franklin played well against a good Asheville team.

As for those doubting Asheville, remember they returned 9 All-Conference players from a 12-2 team. They would walk over 99% of the teams in WNC. Just sayin....

Franklin by 14... A road game at one of the toughest road venues in the state for a young an inexperienced team against an always good Franklin team = loss

I'll say this though, if Murphy can't beat Franklin at home next year with all the talent they'll be bringing back, they never will.

not sure if you were at the Franklin - Asheville game or not, but it you were you would have seen two very good well coached big, physical teams battling it out. Throw away the logic about graduation = depletion, Murphy has their hands full this week
that's nice... don't think anyone from Murphy said otherwise

I have saw Asheville this year and they are very good. Maybe the biggest line Asheville has ever had with plenty of weapons. If Franklin played them close that is saying something and Murphy beat a solid Hendersonville team. If I could go to any game this week the Murphy/ Franklin game would be it.

It will be interesting to see if Kent/Curry will share playing time again this week. They both played well against Hendersonville.

We looke like crap against Franklin and alot of that was because of Franklin. They played their *** off and maybe we did come out with the big head a little bit but they were alot better than I expected. Very well coached team where all 11 guys were on the same page, which is even more impressive for it being in the first game. The best thing that could have happened to asheville was having a close one against Franklin.

Agreed Cougar1. Sometimes it takes getting your teeth smacked out to wake you up. I don't think we'll see our guys taking anything for granted the rest of this season. Yes, we did play like crap and had a few hundred thousand yards in penalties but Franklin came to play. They are damn good.

That should be a good one. Panthers will be young but the JV team has folks pretty excited in FrankVegas.

My God, MBD! You just put the seal of death on the next great Murphy team, haha! I think you said the same thing the year before last about last year's yellow dawgs, and look what happened.

This should be a great game. I saw Murphy last week and they looked very solid coming out of the gate and we all know Franklin will be tough. Should be a great game. Good luck to both sides. Keep us posted.

lmao, should've kept my mouth shut. Now 'Dogs will have their entire starting 2016 backfield injured by week two next year.

Looking forward to the match up but don't know what to expect. Glad it's in "the Pit". Was surprised to see the Franklin had 30 passing attempts vs Asheville!

I don't care how talented #34 is, he needs to ride the bench until he learns how to hold onto the damn football. The score should be 28-21 right now.

Congrats to Franklin on the win.

Panthers get their 1st win of the season. Hope JP is ok!
Panthers earned the win tonight but a Murphy fan has to feel a golden opportunity to knock off a beatable Panther team in the Pit slipped thru the fingers. Dogs had to be right around 400 yards offense and 6 or 7 trips inside the 35 but only 14 pts to show for it. Cant make costly turnovers and win on the road. Panthers still physical and no turnovers. Both teams look like 10 win seasons are in reach with a little luck along the way.

Knowing Franklins game plan going in, they pretty much accomplished what they set out to do I think. They gambled defensively with blitzes and pressure on Kent. Kents ability to shrug off tacklers, extend the play and the fact that Franklin corners played straight man coverage allowed some big completions. This kept Murphy going in the second half.

This game was won in the first quarter and a half though. Franklin controlled the line of scrimmage and Murphy had no answer for Lowrys speed or Gibbs hard running. Combined they had 287 yards on 27 carries. Murphy ended up with many more plays from scrimmage. I think this was due to the fact that once down, Murphy played with 4 downs all night. For example a 35 yard gain on a fake punt inside their own 30. Gutsy call!

Franklin was forced to break in their future QB tonight in 2nd half. And after a few shaky possessions, he seemed to get in the speed of the game. Glad to see him and offense finally get in sync. He has a big future ahead of him. But those two 3 and outs for the Panther offense kept Murphy grinding and believing.

Now having said all that.....Murphy is pretty good IMO. Having seen Robbinsville in scrimmage and with Swain's performance tonight...you gotta see the Dawgs as big favorites in the SMC. Franklin still has Erwin and Swain before WNCAC play starts. Good luck to all.

Robbinsville 1 Franklin 1. What did you see in Rville that makes us a big underdog to Murphy. It was very close between Rville and Franklin. Score was even and play was close.

Murphy got beat by you guys by 3 tds.

I agree nole. Scrimmages dont exactly give a team a distinct direction in which way a real game would be played out. Murphys inabliity to stop Franklins ground game, especially in the first half, and Murphys multiple redzone turnovers killed any chance of the Dogs getting a win in the Pit.

Congrats to Franklin they were a well disciplined , well coached football team . I think our youth and inexperience showed last night and quite frankly our boys never looked hungry enough to win the game from the opening kickoff . I see Murphy only getting better as the year progresses , they looked fundamentally solid , but they just didn't have that Murphy want to . I don't know can't put my finger on it.

For this early in the season you have a fine looking football team over in Franklin good luck the rest of the way
