The “gnashing of teeth” focus will be on the missed goaltend(s), and the technical on Coach. Understood.

I have a different question: How likely is it that in a game between two competitive teams one of them goes to the line 36 times and the other 13? Was there something about how NU defended or screened or was careless when rebounding? Or .... ?

When you look at the box score, NU lost the “Made FTs" by 12, obviously outscoring GU from the floor, even though shooting 85% from the Iine. I wasn’t really aware of that stat as the game progressed, and I do seem to recall that at the start of the 2nd half Gonzaga got whistled a few times in rapid succession. But what did I miss?

I looked at the box score a couple of hours ago, and what jumped out at me was the free-throw statistics. I can't believe that no one on the board has mentioned that until now

You didn't miss anything, Palindrome. The officiating was incredibly poor and inconsistent throughout. The way the crew handled continuations was maddening! There was at least a 4-6 point swing on those calls alone. And we've already dissected the two blown goaltends.

Fouls were being "anticipated" throughout. Gonzaga outsized NU and the refs were expecting to blow the whistle, regardless of whether the play on the court warranted it. Scottie was severely hampered by this course of action. Unfortunately, we've seen before...the end of last year's BTT (against Michigan) comes to mind.

Eventually, if the Collins keeps moving the program forward, we may see these calls flip in NU's favor, but for the time being, it sucks.

Side note: Gonzaga missed a lot of their freebies tonight, but, man were they clutch in the closing minutes. Especially the frosh big man.

I mentioned this in another thread, sorry that I didn't see this one. You see it when one team plays nearly exclusively from the outside (like Vandy, for example) and the other does not, But both teams had the same amount of points in the paint; can't recall ever seeing such a disparity when BOTH teams were pounding it inside equally. Probably one of the many things the supervisor of officials will review from this game.
