(Free) Yeast is one of the best in the Midwest. Visited Iowa last week, but is 100 to Kentucky.

To me, it is an oxymoron when a high school senior says he is 100% committed to a university but he is going to take all of his visits. To me, if a player is determined to take more visits, then he is not 100% committed to the school. Maybe he is 90% or 80% committed. I know things have changed since I was in high school. I get it. And I think Craig Yeast's legacy at Kentucky probably makes it likely that Russ Yeast will follow through in his verbal commitment and sign with Kentucky. I hope he does. But it isn't going to shock me if he doesn't. And although Yeast is a fine player, I am more concerned about our offensive and defensive lines.

I think any coaching staff that has a "100% committed" recruit taking visits, should consider the spot not 100% filled and act accordingly.

I agree with you, but this can get touchy. When you recruit the top players, there will usually be competition from top schools. Sometimes you have to be patient and hang in there. Jordan Griffin and Denzel Ware are good examples. There was a time when most coaches would pull scholarship offers on kids who verballed and then kept taking other visits. That doesn't happen much anymore. These days, most high school kids want to take all their visits. The majority of kids who verbal to Kentucky end up signing with Kentucky eventually. That was less true in 2015, but still generally true. This provides reason for patience, especially if the kid is in good academic standing. The fact that Yeast is visiting places like Iowa after moving to Indianapolis is a huge red flag. But OTOH, his Daddy's legacy at Kentucky means something to Russ. It wouldn't be the end of the world if Russ signs somewhere else. Stoops has built a lot of depth at receiver and in the secondary. But when it comes to recruiting linemen and quarterbacks, it is important to hang on to them. In most cases, plan B for linemen and quarterbacks means taking a juco. While some jucos like Za'Darius, Stamps, and Blue have gotten the job done for Stoops, it is usually better to sign a good 4 year player and develop him in your program from the start.

It sounded like a friend was going to visit Iowa and he asked Yeast to come along. It's not a big deal.
"I might still take some other visits, and I know I want to go to Northwestern at some point."

Sounds like a big deal to me

I see your point, but I look at recruiting as sort of a two party negotiation. If the recruit senses he can put down a place holder that will always be there he then can feel free to take visits go to other teams camps and engage in the process without recourse, but OTOH if he sees Kentucky continuing to recruit his position, he realizes there is at least some risk that they might fill it with another player of equal or better caliber or fit, thus he might be more included to shut things down earlier and take "the bird in the hand". So by continue to recruit a spot when a committed player is taking visits is more than just about compiling a potential alternative or plan B, it's also about messaging and posturing.

Yep. It means he is not truly 100% Kentucky. But the biggest likelihood is that he will sign with us next February. You know his Daddy must be influencing him to become a Wildcat.

He is tight with UK coaches. A legacy recruit. Tweeting about uk basketball. Says he is recruiting for the team and is 100% solid. Sounds great! Not getting all worried about a few visits.

If we are worried about Craig's son flipping to northwestern.... we got problems. I brought russ yeast up to this board his freshman year of hs.

I was watching YouTube highlights of Craig and a kid claiming to be his son had a comment under one of the highlights... "one day I'm gonna go to UK and break all my dad's records".

I looked him up and posted his hudl highlight on here. We all talked about getting the legacy on board and he's now committed before his Sr year. Some of you guys are not cut out for following recruiting.
