We all seen what happened when another team in conference thought about hiring Stoops. But we have a handful of guys on here that defend Stoops no matter what. Barney’s boys got their superbowl win last night.
Where are all these Stoops defenders?? I see some who aren't miserable UK got a win , don't see anyone , and haven't in a while saying Stoops is going a good job here.

That was expected. I don't care for him much, but he looks pretty rough and is fighting a health issue, just don't think he had the energy the job requires and held on to be fired and get the buyout.

They already have a hotboard up and number 1 is their DC, DJ Durkin, 2 is Sumrall.

Stoops has done some good thinks for UK, both on the field and insisting on facility upgrades. Sometimes relationships just go stale and time to go separate ways. I think CMS is a good coach, and if UK does go in a different direction I hope Kirby contacts him, but that's another story.

Think we could swap Stoops for your athletic admin and its high football expectations? Maybe throw in some basketballs to sweeten the deal?

This is what real programs do. Way of the world.

I just cannot understand how anyone supports Barnhart. I’m sorry but no other SEC program would tolerate him. Like him fine but agree he should be running an SEC football program and blue blood basketball program is absurd. It’s not even close to the realm of understanding.

I just cannot believe how long he’s managed to hang in after Gillispie, Joker, retaining Tubb attempt, retaining Joker attempt, calipari contract, Stoops contract, mishandling of the NIL and on. It’s unreal how he’s got any support. My mother who grew up a UT fan and doesn’t pay too much attention has even said how is Mitch still employed after Stoops. I mean it’s not rocket science. Not only still employed but having buildings named after him. I have 2 uncles that were athletic directors so I’m familiar with their job. He really shouldn’t be standing at UK anymore. The guy has had unreal wealth thrown in his lap and this is what we have in both programs after nearly a quarter century? The mishandling of the basketball program and his unwillingness to work with Calipari when we had to have him should have easily been the nail in the coffin. Every single person familiar with Stoops at the time said do not offer him he’s maxed out. And he not only retains him he writes a check we can’t cash lol.

I’m afraid someone is in control at UK that cares nothing about wins and losses. Mitch is going something else they approve of and it has nothing to do with the field. This university has turned into a corrupt landlord who cares about nothing but rent payments.

Auburn is just corrupt. Aside from Tennessee but maybe more so, they are the most corrupt athletic department in the SEC. 100% ran by boosters. You can win a championship and stumble the next season and they want you fired. Why any coach would take that seat is beyond me. They expect Alabama results but are the program of Louisville. Guys just need to turn it down and hold out. Make those pos sit with a low grade.

Not many left. There were a lot of them when many were saying don’t offer him that contract. I know of 1 person that posts here that still makes excuses for him, although I think even he said his time is over. He’s probably talking about a lot of the people defending him before the train ran off the tracks.

Like I was saying in the other post. Some people will defend these coaches and have no vision of where it’s headed. Then it goes off the tracks and they never admit or learn from it. It’s not like we can do anything about it but it gets annoying. I assume that’s what he’s speaking toward.

Can’t understand why anyone would want that Auburn job. Ran by bootets who you could ring in 2 titles and have a .500 season and they’ll want you gone. There’s no way to have success in that backward no man’s land program full of corrupt boosters. They think they’re Alabama and not even tier 1. Sumrall needs to stay away from it. Theyll likely hire from within, but this is Mitch in action. Have a home grown up and comer and waste the opportunity to bring him in because you won’t pull the trigger on this stoops train wreck.

Brohm would be a very interesting choice for Auburn. As to Stoops. If I were him, I would go to Barnhart after last night and say let’s negotiate a buyout that works for us both. Then ride off into the sunset. Cause that’s the best it’s gonna get from this point on. He’d have my full respect and admiration for what he’s done here.

You talking our AD, Josh Brooks? He is ok, nothing special, good guy. He didn't hire Kirby, our big boosters did that and retired AD was told to get the contract signed. So yeah I would swap him, I think CMS could bring a good bit defensively. We get Muschamp back, can you imagine how exciting our sideline would be with Champ and Stoops?

Can't disagree with anything you say, most corrupt program in college athletics. But I am surprised they want Durkin with his baggage, but they don't shy away from coaches with baggage.

I’ve always admired Georgia to an extent because they don’t sell their souls to win and take care of their coaches. They’re more like Kentucky in that we want legacy guys who want to be a part of the tradition not hired guns one after another who are buyable. You can see similarities. Georgia has probably cost themselves some titles by remaining loyal to program guys. But I think it’s noticed and admirable. And it’s led to Kirby Smart who’s another legacy and program guy. To me it just matters more. Auburn could ring off a few championships and to me it really doesn’t matter because it’s not success built upon program stability and meaning. I’ll never understand why any coach wants to coach there.

Looks like it’s paid off for Georgia. Probably cost them in some ways, but leading to becoming a juggernaut which, they’ve always been a sort of sleeping giant. Decent fanbase not like Auburn and UT. I just don’t mind them winning.

Out of curiosity, just who are all these 2nd tier programs going to get? Truly elite coaches are few and far between. I understand their desire but not their process. The biggest problem is NIL has caused a bit more parity. No school can afford an elite player at every position. It’s going to cause issues for coaches.
NIL is only going to create more parity, because like you say, they can’t afford elite at every position. Also, elite players won’t be content to sit for 2-3 years behind another older elite player. The top programs don’t have the same level of depth they used to have. Hopefully that will matriculate to us at some point and we will benefit. It’s going to reshape the landscape. The portal will make high school recruiting classes smaller and better players will end up at smaller schools like the MAC and Sunbelt have in order to prove themselves before transferring up. We just have to also hope this deal with JMI and the Champions Blue, LLC thing works out.

This is my fear. Some program will lock Sumrall up while Mitch waits to see if Stoops can win enough games to not have to fire him. I listened to a podcast today. The commentator mentioned that a program might go ahead and try to lock Sumrall up do to fear of missing out. Ole Mis could still be playing in January and there are no guarantees that Kiffin is leaving Ole Mis. LSU, UF & PSU will pick off the top candidates. UK doesn't have that luxury, so UK should lock up Sumrall now.

We have a chance to have 2 former player coaches and one of them is an absolute monster in football. And here we sit in wait and see mode with the stoops brothers and it’s not the real one. This is vintage Mitch Barnhart. He’ll miss out and when asked about it after he has to fire stoops at seasons end, he’ll say “the timing wasn’t right”. When it wasn’t right because A: you signed stoops to a stupid contract when you should have been paying attention to Sumrall and B: you retained him when other programs were firing to hurry and get the right guy.

Mitch is was and always will be the problem. Stoops just won his first SEC game in forever and Mitch Barnhart is on the field hugging him like we’re headed to the SEC title game. It’s unbelievable watching it in real time.

We are an SEC program. Building a team who could finish top 5 in the ACC is not going to cut it. Hiring guys that are fit to be coordinators not headed coaches aren’t going to cut it. You either want to win or you don’t. We have an AD that has convinced half the fans and the brass that we can’t. So take whatever. Barnhart is an excellent salesman. But he belongs at Murray not Kentucky.

Barnhart hugging all over Stoops like that was weird considering that was a bad Auburn team. As long as Mitch is our AD we will never consistently be good in football.
