I think it will be West Stokes conference to lose. Mount Airy will be a great test. I just feel Lowman has MA's number. East Surry should finish third. They are making strides in the right direction, but there are just too many athletes on the other two teams.

One issue with West is the loss of their best lineman. Coach Whitt will have to replace him in the trenches, but he should be able to coach up a newbie to be ready.

North Surry should be competitive, but they seem to choke under pressure. Coach Smith is going into his third year and we should see strides in the right direction for the Greyhounds.

Surry Central and Forbush should be interesting with new coaches. Surry Central brings in the former head coach from North Stokes. Forbush has hired Logan Holder, son of Kelly. Both have been around football for quite a while, just too many questions to know how they will fare.

Thanks, MA and WS will have inexperience at QB but coaching up a quarterback is Lowman specialty. Martin and Joyce will be standouts for the Bears.

West Stokes winning the conference. That's a pretty ridiculous statement. But you seems like you're still making them. Uninformed

Who do you think will win it? What is so uninformed in my original post?
I just think that's a ridiculous statement. Mount airy is loaded. Maybe next year West Stokes has a chance to win. But I'm sure the bears will get in some recruits by then too. Trent's about wore out his welcome around here. He'll hit the ground running for somewhere else when it dries up

Mount Airy was loaded last year but they were too one dimensional on offense. Not going to beat good teams running few plays.

I don't think they were too one dimensional. I think they were just limited. From what I hear that's been changed. Athletically they are far superior to any of the teams in their conference. With the addition of the two linemen one that's there and one that's coming it's going to be tough.

They have one that hasn't showed yet?

Must be caught in the transfer portal. I don't Trent has wore out his welcome in King. The community is behind the Wildcats. I think from history we can see that Lowman teams have beat teams with better athletes.

So when people have a difference in opinion, their comments can seem ridiculous. Interesting. It looks like we have our predictions pretty close, just with first and second being different. I guess I don't know anything.

MA may win the championship, but it will be a good race and that is all we can ask for in HS football. Good luck to all of the conference teams.

Will the state ever step in and stop all of the "transfers" at certain schools? I guess until then there will not be an equal playing field.

Several of us Bear Tailgating Group (no membership required to join, just show up and pitch in) are going to Walkertown and Parkland scrimmage at Mt Tabor on Friday evening. Until then I put/project Mt Airy to win conference and be a force in 3A.
If the scrimmage shows me the Bears are either better or worse than I expect, I will report that.

As to the comments about last year, there is some truth to the limited offense ability. Not because of the players, Mt Airy had them in spades, but the coaches' hands were tied in that they had to play one person at a position that just limited what they could do. But that administrator is no longer in that position and the coaches are free to play what they believe to be the best players at their best position.

As far as talent goes, there are observers that believe this is may be the most overall talented, strongest and focused team Mt Airy has had in many years. To be seen.

REWhitley, are you saying that the winningest coach in school history and a future NC Hall of Famer didn't play the best players last season because of politics? Why did the new HC let this happen? I don't believe any of that. They lost their first game since 2022 to a team that gets as many recruits as MA...It happens...get over yourself, man.

I believe they were not prepared for option #2 if Martin was stopped. The schedule was weak outside of Starmount.

Much respect to MA. But I don't think this team better than that 2023 MA team. That 23 team was Loaded at every position and had a all time great defense. MA I expect will be really good this year. But best team in years, can't put them over 23. Maybe close to the 2022 or 2017 MA teams

The 2023 team were down couple of games and Adkins made adjustments. Had lot of talent but good coaching

I have heard the MA defense this year will be as good as any team they have had. I'm also hearing great things about the offense if everything falls into place as it looks, but, as I said, I am talking about hearsay, and others may know more. Most teams are hush-hush about what they are expecting, and a lot of talk every year about all the better teams, but some seem to fall through the cracks. After the season starts it is one game at a time !

Generally, I would agree with this assessment, with a couple points of exception that could be off. I can't say until there is some live play. Maybe scrimmage Friday can answer some of it. This year's defense could be just as good or better than 23, but in different ways. The DL this year really could be better as a whole than the 23 group. They will be hard to run on this year and as probably 80 to 90% of most high school offensive plays are ground based, they would easily be a 2nd or 3 round playoff team even if the offense was trash, which it is not.

The offense is still a partial mystery though. The run game will probably be similar, but I would imagine better than last year. Same backs with another year of lifting and growth. I would imagine that fumble at the end of year has a fire in Martin's heart. Kid looked tore up at the end and I wouldn't be surprised to see him tear up any defense in his way this year. Probably what Whitley means by focused. So the running game might be even to better.

The passing frankly has to be better this year. Last year, it was just too inconsistent to none existent. I do think Gallimore was the best option last year regardless of what others think, but won't get into it. It will be a new QB this year, which could provide improvement, but honestly Oakley and Goins are going to have to do their part and do what Stroup did in 23. But if the passing game can be counted on for some consistency and take a little pressure of the run game, they could make their own arguments to be the best team. Way too early to say that, but it is on them to earn that distinction.

You know there really won't be. I'm assuming you're talking about West Stokes? You know with all the transfers they had last year. And the ones he tried to get this year. Pilfering your old school. In more ways than one I heard.

West only had one transfer Fleming last year.
