Grand scheme of things, $1 mil in return for a national championship is a bargain. The value to the school that comes from a championship is in the 10s of millions. Licensing and souvenirs, in addition to what is likely a more in demand ticket, parking, etc., just scratches the surface. I believe coaches, in general, are overpaid, but when it comes down to it, it's a big money business and you want the best leading your business.

Oh I understand what you’re saying and ultimately in a free market, what you and competition pays is what you’re worth. Are coaches really overpaid? Yeah sure, the top 20 or so are making 4+ mill a year. But it's a 16 hour a day, `340 days a year job, for both assistants and head coaches. And the vast majority of those coaches are only making 6 figures. Compared to other jobs in that pay range, the stakes are much higher, the success or failure rate is much more visible and objective, and the stress is impossibly high. I mean the fact that they have to spend a good portion of their lives sucking the dick of 16 year old athletes just to maybe get them to commit to their school is worth their pay-scale.
Haven’t read all the details but it appears that Frost is set to make less than Ferentz
Ferentz base 4.6 million + 650k retention bonus every Jan 31st
500k bonus for 8 wins
More private jet hours 35 vs 20
Ferentz makes more in bonuses if he simply wins 8 games and shows up to the office on Jan 31 than Frost does if he wins a national title

so, you are saying he is grossly underpaid?I believe the motivation behind the Ferentz pay is "that's how much they have to pay me to get me to live in Iowa"!
