Dawn’s system requires team players not individuals.
Not looking at this as a one player situation. The media and detractors are trying to build a narrative against us that Dawn doesn't develop her guards. Raven shooting 35% from the field after 4 years and MiLaysia leaving doesn't help this. Eyes will be on us with Latson coming.in. Will really not look good if she goes from the Nation's Leading scorer to barely a double figure score on inefficient shooting. Trust dawn, but I am starting to get a little concerned. I don't care what system you have, you can't win without good guards coming in.

I watched it. She had two really bad turnovers in the National Championship game. You brush her off and let her learn and grow from. Not go out and get a replacement that we will probably turn into a 12 point a game scorer too. We can try to put a positive spin it, but MiLaysia wasn't on the court most times when our guards were reluctant to shoot or couldn't shoot. This kid bailed us out countless times when we couldn't score and all she asked was to start after patiently sitting the bench two years. We couldn't honor that. Come on man. This is bad all the way around and I am as big a Garnet Pumper as it gets.
No kid makes their college choice because a current player decided to transfer. That is ridiculous! The truth about MF is that she was an oooohhhh and ahhhh player. She wanted to be the star of the show and be damned the team. She consistently took terrible shots at bad times of the game. Turned easy layups into much harder ones for the wow factor. She was never going to be a team player and I think Dawn started to realize it. Let her go play for a team that needs the media attention because that is her most significant draw.

Losing Lay is not good! She provided an unexpected punch to the opponents with her style of play, and she’s just a straight baller—and she was ours. She has the best handles in WBB, bar none—and she was ours. You can’t duplicate what she does, and she should have been developed better. As much as I detest Skim Mulkey, she would let Mylay play.
You can't develop a look at me type player. Do you think Dawn and staff forgot how to develop talent or the kid just didn't want to change her ways? Common sense should tell you the answer.

Just the opposite actually. This year proved without a dominant center they were not the same team of the last few years. They got beat up in the paint by teams with good rebounders.

This team is and has been the last few years terrible shooting the ball from outside 15 feet. Dawn has finally recognized that she needs a team that can consistently knock down a three or she may never see another championship.

Why do you think Dawn finally recognized this?

Steph Curry? Lebron James? Caitlin Clark? Most of the really great players are look at me players. They may cover it up with some fake humility, but most of the great players have that arrogance and desire to stand out above the rest.

Just because you don't see the wolf at the door doesn't mean he isn't out there.
While I appreciate your cryptic comments, let’s just say I’ve been around for a while. Go ask the Tennessee fans if you should allow a player to hold you hostage. Whatever happened with their QB, I think I have respect for Josh Heupel now. Our women’s basketball team just traded a once a month sports center highlight reel for a consistent game in game out player. Even though I wasn’t thinking about it before, I’ll make that trade every day. And if MF wants to come back, I will still be a fan.

Was she trying to hold us hostage? Do you have any evidence of that? This is not the same situation that Tennessee faced with that quarterback, as you very well know.

I hate this too. Sure, she was inconsistent but was there anyone on the team that wasn`t? She made plays few others, if any, can make. I wish her well but it will be a bitter pill to play against her. There are several games we would have lost, imo, if she hadn`t come in and helped turn the game around.

This so false it isn't even funny. Last year not only was the team top 5 in offense in the country but we were also top 3 in the country in 3pt shooting percentage. Go to NCAA stats and put in 2024 stats and you might learn a little about the team you claim to know about

Not saying she was trying the Nico route. But our program is not going to crumble bc she stays or leaves. Many of the post intimated that it was going to kill our in-state recruiting because she was a local girl. That was the premise I’m operating on. And kind of like Josh Heupel said, no one player or no coach like me is bigger than the university. That was my simple point…..disclaimer: I truly like watching her play when she’s locked in on defense and offense. So I have no malice and wish her stardom somewhere

On the bright side of things, we have what appears to be two excellent big wing players coming in with Makeer and McDowell. I have watched both play twice over the past week or so. I am really excited about McDowell. 6-2, Solid Frame, can really shoot it out to the 3 Point Line. Makeer is not as refined offensively but potentially excellent on the defensive end. Measured 6'1 1/2" at the Nike Summit in Portland. Not as physically ready as McDowell as she weighs only a little over 130 lbs, but she has really long arms. You add those two with Latson, her numbers speak for themselves, and potentially the big girl from Miss. St and we are loaded for next year. Now, Fulwiley does place a small cloud when it comes to in-state recruiting as the last two in-state guard recruits didn't end well. However, we may have gotten to the point where we can recruit nationally and make up for any issues that we may incur in-state down the road.

Correct me if I'm wrong because I admittedly don't have an interest in women's sports, but living in this area you have to hear a lot about the basketball team (now that they're winning) on sports radio and I seem to recall it being the 2023 Iowa F4 game where Iowa essentially didn't bother to cover USC on the outside because they were convinced they couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from outside the paint?

Is this correct or am I confusing it with something else?

TIA

That's one player in one game two years ago. That player was actually much improved as a shooter in 2024 and we won the National Championship. That same player regressed in 2025 and we lost in the National Championship game. That player's struggles shooting has been well chronicled, but that does not give you a picture of where the team stands.

They didnt cover Raven, Breezy and Zia could still shoot the 3 but had off games, that game was lost by the refs allowing Clarke to use her arm bar and not call it all game, then in the final vs LSU the refs did start calling it and you see what happened

Respectfully, we have yet to see what the effects are going to be.

So, explanations concerning the loss aside, I'm assuming I remembered the Iowa gameplan correctly - that they had so little respect for USC's ability to shoot from the outside that they didn't bother to guard them most of the time? Was it only one person they didn't cover or any of them?

This isn't a criticism - like I said, I don't care for women's sports so I don't follow them; I just hear about them on the radio - it's more of a memory check since there seemed to be disagreement between two posters as to their shooting prowess from distance and I seemed to remember that was the reported scenario.

Thanks to all.

Again. One game and one opponent. They had to have some gameplan. Don't think they were going to extend their defense and trust their post players to guard Boston and Cardoso 1 v 1.

Again, I mentioned I heard it was for one game; I was getting conflicting information as to whether it applied to all outside shooters, that's why I asked for the clarification - to be clear.

Thanks again.
