I don't think either is inherently better for the program. People remember 15 seeds winning, not 9 seeds. However I would guess that in the next ten years NU will have more games won in the NCAAs than conference tournament championships. So I'll pick the more rare event and say Big Ten title.

I guess I mean losing, period. I assumed that if we won the BTT, we'd get a 7 or higher seed, so losing in the first round would be viewed as an upset.

I think that winning the BTT would be a great step for the program, and I'd prefer a BTT win to a two-game NCAA run. A BTT win makes NU one of ... three conference champions on one of the biggest days of the season. A Thursday or Friday win makes NU one of 16 winners.

Exceptions: I would prefer a day one win if accompanied by, say, a 40 point outburst from Lindsey (think Harold 'The Show' Arceneaux, who will forever be grilling [Weber State!] the Tar Heels in our minds) or a memorable buzzer beater.

I'm with you willy. Watching these games in empty gyms is boring. And playing 3 or 4 consecutive days just becomes an endurance contest. But as long as the TV money is there, so will post-season championships.
