Future non conference opponents question.

I swear to God most of you could give a **** about Iowa Football. You want to complain about schedules? Look at Penn State, Nebraska, Indiana, Texas Tech and others. Iowa schedules similar to most other power 5 schools.

OSU: home-and-homes with Bama and Georgia
Mich: Texas and ND
MSU: ND
Minn: Bama in 32 and 33
Illinois: 6 game series with Mizzou
Nebraska: Arizona, OK, ND
USC: ND
Washington: Tennessee

But you are right: none of those are as intriguing as UMass, Albany, and Clown College.

Like it or not I don't think we can count on a win against Iowa State every season based on what I watched Saturday night. Robinson flat outcoached us that first half and his team looked well prepared. He will have to tone things down with the bush league stuff and I suspect that will come. If he can recruit and attract players we will have some very competitive battles with them.

With ISU every year, I'm fine with an FCS each year. We need to be undefeated heading into conference play each year which probably allows us 2 losses and still a playoff birth.

There are MANY FCS schools 'ranked' ahead of FBS teams. I think Sagarin is one-such metric (that groups FBS & FCS together). In fact, I recall a few years ago one of the Dakota Schools (I think the one that beat us), ended up ranked like 22 in the final ratings, so ahead of MOST FBS teams.

In response to Airhawk I changed my previous two posts from Robinson to Rogers. Senior moment Also I had no familiarity with Jimmy Rogers until he took the Iowa State job. I think he will do well there if he plays his cards right. I also found it interesting that he and Kirk had a friendly exchange after the game. Kirk seemed to take the behavior of his players in stride. I doubt that we will see that thuggish play moving forward.

Actually, all Big 10 teams (and probably the majority of P5 schools), play mostly “cupcakes” in the non-conference. This isn’t unique to the University of Iowa.

Iowa does play a P5 school every year (though I wish we would stop playing ISU). ISU has not been a bad program under Campbell.

Iowa’s nonconference schedule really isn’t much different than anyone else’s.

The schools mentioned only play the one tough non- conference opponent, same as Iowa
None of the schools you mentioned have an in-state, Power 4 rival that they are forced to play in their non-conference.
Minnesota will play Alabama and then 2 **** schools. Again, no in-state rival they have to play.
If OSU had to play a good Power 4 in-state rival, I guarantee you they would not be scheduling Alabama or Georgia too.
Iowa should dump ISU and free themselves up to play a better opponent. That would solve everything.

That’s only a small percentage of P5 teams, the opponents aren’t all powerhouses, and they are not yearly occurrences. And I’m sure those teams you listed aren’t playing more than 1 P5 team in their non-conference. At least very very few are.

Look…I get it. Hawk fans want to see Iowa play the big time schools. But that isn’t going to happen if ISU is on the schedule. Other P5 teams usually don’t play more than 1 other P5 team in the non-conference, so it isn’t realistic to expect Iowa to do it.

To do what you want, Iowa will first need to drop Iowa State. And I am all for it.

How many years in advance are non-conference games scheduled? Just curious because of the seemingly “mis-match” this Saturday. Wondering how many years ago it was scheduled. There was a time UNI was pretty strong in their division.

The game has NEVER been scheduled because it was supposed to be a competitive game. It is scheduled because of the revenue payout going to the visiting non-c0nference team is essentially the State of Iowa paying the State of Iowa.. duh.

Big deal. You listed them. Now all we have to do is drop ISU and Iowa will schedule some games like you want. Until ISU is gone off the schedule, it will not happen, nor should it.
