Anyone here remember Fyre festival? Netflix has a good documentary that goes over just how big of a dumpster fire it was, and how many people tried to shut it down before people got to the island.

I enjoyed it and shows how power and money can really give someone a HUGE ego.

The thing I saw that blew me away was the disclosure that Kylie Jenner was paid $250,000 just for mentioning it on her twitter feed as a promotional device for the "festival."

I'm surprised no one has sued her yet over this deal. Secondly, it is just incredibly sad that Kylie Jenner's opinion is valued at $250,000 and there are that many people who are willing to buy in, just because she gives something a "like."

Is there no depths that family won't plumb?

They talked about at the end that some filed suit against the Instagram "influencers" and it caused the government to come out and tell them that they need to disclose pad ad's and they were going to start going after them.

I may not have made my point clear. What's "Crazy" is there's enough people out there who follow her and approve of her opinion enough to be worth $250,000. From an advertising/promotional standpoint I understand it, it's just sad that so many people can be influenced by such 3rd and 4th rate "celebrities."

That was really the basis of the whole scam. They spent a couple of million making that video and buying influencers and then sold $20M or so in ticket packages. Then they just blew all the money. I would love to see the actual numbers of how much they spent up front and how much revenue it generated and what percent was actually spent trying to put on the festival.

I don't have a lot of sympathy for the victims. If you are dumb enough to buy a 50K plus package to something like that based on a video and social media you have too damn much money anyway. Even the investors who he scammed for more millions from should have known a music festival was high risk and done at least basic due diligence. The only people I really feel sorry for are the vendors and laborers who got stiffed.

The thing that I hadn’t heard and could not believe is that while he was being sued from pretty much everybody, he tried to run ANOTHER scam using the same emails from people that had signed up for the Fyre Festival

If you haven't watched the Hulu one as well, you should. It shows how much FuckJerry had to do with perpetrating the fraud. The Netflix doc didn't touch on that at all, due to FuckJerry being heavily involved with the Netfllix doc.

I liked the Hulu documentary more than the Netflix one, but both were good. The Hulu edition has an OKC connection.

Also learned the term FOMO. Dumb, rich millennials.
