Anyone notice another member of the Gabbert family attended "Friday Night Lights"? Brett Gabbert is a QB and younger brother of Blaine and Tyler. Based on the past drama of Blaine and Tyler, I'm hoping the youngst Gabbert doesn't end up here in 2019.

What do you all think?

So far he's got Tyler's size and not Blaine's, so I think we take a pass. Prolly more suited to NW Missouri St with those measurables.

Not sure how he rates compared to his brothers, but if he's good enough for an offer I would love to see him come. The St. Louis area is exploding with great talent over the next few years and there's a real possibility that Nebraska could sign several stars out of there next year and the year after. Getting Gabbert could be a catalyst toward that end.

No reason to hate this kid because of the drama that happened a long time ago. If he can live up to his brothers, he will be a pretty decent quarterback. If he is good enough you got to go after him.
That's exactly right. I'd find it hard to believe that Riley would hold something against a kid that happened with his brothers and a prior coaching staff.

If you were a pro style QB with high potential would you want to play for Pelini?

Gabbert #1 committed to NU then decommited. Gabbert #2 committed to NU then decommited. Anyone in the NU offices that extends an offer or accepts a commit from Gabbert #3 should be immediately terminated! Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, fool me three times and I'm to stupid to exist!
This is silly.

The issue wasn't Nebraska, it was the coaches. With this coaching staff if Gabbert gets an offer, it is earned. Even if he accepts then goes elsewhere, how is that different from other decommits we have had in the past?

What's silly about an entire family that doesn't know the meaning of commit. If you accept a commit from anyone in this family you better continue recruiting the position because history has shown it won't mean a thing.
You might be able to convince me that Gabbert #1 decommited because of the coaches but then why did Gabbert #2 commit to those same coaches.

We don't want their dad anywhere near our program. He's a total nut job. Tyler eventually had a breakdown at Mizzou because of him. You can see it in Blaine too, everything you want in a QB but heart & desire.

I agree that you continue recruiting a QB. You never said that at all. What you did say is whoever offers this kid should be fired on the spot. That's the silly part.

This would make more sense to me for not offering in spite of his talent.

I understand the opinions of people who say that was a previous coaching staff. But I also agree with the poster who mentioned their family history. I would never consider offering this kid. Sorry but we've been burned twice already by them.

No, you are TOO stupid to exist.
Huskers have already identified a 2019 Q.B prospect in Max Duggan from Lewis Central H.S in Council Bluffs, Iowa. National Quarterback website "Q.B Hit list.com" ranks Duggan as a 4 star and the #7 top pro style Q.B in class of "19 (Gabbert is #44). Coincidently Duggan plays for his dad who also coached Q.B's Mike Stuntz (Nebraska) and Jake Waters (Kansas Sate) in H.S, excellent pedigree.

The Duggan kid is comparable to Bubba Starling: 14 year old freshman Q.B who led Lewis Central to large class state Quarter-finals in Iowa, 6th man on Varsity Basketball, State Track Qualifier and one of the starting pitchers/out fielders on the Varsity Baseball team that is ranked in the top 10 in the state! He is a very humble young athlete.

On a recruiting side note, Max Duggan's dad was a teammate with Coach Parella's older brother at South Dakota in the mid 80's.Duggan's future interest has already been narrowed down to Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas State and Notre Dame, unless he chooses baseball.

Thanks for that info. Working a reasonable driving distance from Lewis Central, I may have to check out one of his games if I can find the time the next couple falls.

Some of you like to paint with a pretty broad brush. Blaine decommit after Cally was fired? Hard to really blame a kid for that.

You can't judge a kid based on what happened with his brothers. If that was the case my little brother would have been hated by quite a few teachers at my high school growing up!

You wouldn't like it if we judged your younger siblings because of your idiotic post, would you?

A broad brush....LOL. The first son decommits and convinces a number of fellow recruits to follow him. The second son (whom we all wanted) commits and then decommits for unknown reasons after screwing around the coaches for months. Yet you think we should give the third son the benefit of the doubt because he might be different than the rest of his family. Well I guess there's nothing wrong blind optimism because you would have to be blindly optimistic to believe this apple has fallen far from the tree.

Huskerlife, you do make a fair point. It's entirely possible that he would do the same thing as his brothers given the opportunity.

An argument can also be made, however, that if he were offered he would not want to be lumped in with his flaky brothers and be solid in his commitment. I guess there is some middle ground to be found here. Just as you rightly claim blind optimism is foolish, I think it's equally foolish to say he will screw us over, guaranteed, if given the chance, which seems to be what you are suggesting.

I have no trouble not offering him a scholarship (and it sounds like we already have our eyes on bigger fish, so it may be a moot point) but if the coaches do offer him, I still say it won't be a fireable offense.

I'm the youngest of four in my family. All three of my older siblings flunked out of college. Should I not have been given the chance to go to college? Fortunately, my parents didn't follow your logic here and they sent me to college. I graduated in four years, then went to graduate school for another four, graduating from there as well.

This is the point I and others are making... You can't automatically assume that baby brother Gabbert will do us like his older brothers.

We were bound to lose a bunch of commits regardless if Blaine was telling people to decommit or not. I honestly don't care anymore about Tyler's recruitment to care what happened.

They were both completely different situations. If anything, the Gabbert family would be wary to send their kid to Nebraska after how the fans treated them both.

Plus, it wasn't just Nebraska coaches at the camp. He is going to camps to get exposure just like any other guy. Until we offer it is a mute point.

But we can judge the family and their history... right? It is not the kid people are judging it is the family. That "Family" has proven in the past to be idiotic, so Gabbert #3 may be completely different and a great player and person, but the "family" can kiss my A$$

As the youngest brother of 4 other siblings I am fully aware of being judged by their past. It sucks! My thought is if this kid is the best we can do we are in serious trouble.

don't know anything about Gabbert ... but a pro style offense in college simply needs an accurate QB who makes good decisions (to this point TA is has neither quality) ... whether they be 5'10 or 6"4 .. too much is made of measurables - legitimate concern for the NFL - but not in college

you could win a lot of games with a Joe Ganz or Todd Reesing (5'11) at the helm

I would've loved to see Gabbert play in Watson's first years of the hybrid WCO/Spread he was running with Ganz. I think he may have been a good fit. Far more skill than Zac Lee IMO. I was just watching the 2010 game against Mizzou. Their O-Line was swiss cheese to our D-Line. Had no answer. Gabbert took a beating that day.

Baseball a possibility? Not that again.
