After that first double penalty Brandon Johnson played lights out D the rest of the game too. You can tell he’s talented, I’ve never seen a DB able to commit a hold and a late hit out of bounds on the same play on two different players, that’s talent.

Loved our D. They didn’t chase the ball but played their positions so they were ready when the play came to them. The DBs also played tight coverage, none of that 5 to 10 yard cushion stuff.

That was Gerard Wheeler(So.,6'3", 325) back up center who did a fine job after entering. Still can't explain Couch's "performance". Presumably did OK in practice. You know he was nervous about blocking & schemes against toughest D we will face all year.
I know that thinking about blocking before you’ve actually executed the Snap is a bad combo. Typically the center tries to hurry the snap back to the QB and over does it sending it soaring wide because he wants to get his hands up quickly to block the DL. I understand it but he has to understand his 1st job is to get the ball to the QB. Nothing good happens if the QB doesn’t get the Snap. If the QB has to roll out and scramble to get away from a guy who beat the center off the block, you can live with it.

This was a 17 - 7 or 17-10 ball game . Couch absolutely gave away 9 points by himself . If he does this crap again , find another position for him ...guard ,tackle or the bench . The team can not afford these elementary mistakes on offense .

Considering we only scored 7, I would say it was 17-10 lol. Couch had two terrible snaps that ended up being 14 points. This game should have been 16-7

We have a pretty good team. I think coach has to change his approach to play calling. The quick passes to all skill players. Keep the RPO just don't use as a primary attack. The screen to the back and TE would help.
Mr. Jackson has always been an intelligent poster . Always appreciate his insight .

I hope the game plan has a few more plays than what we saw at MSU. I hope to see screen to the backs and TE. Check down passes to the running backs and TE. I like the slants to the Stewart and Johnson. Pass on 1st down.

I would think we are just running the base package now. It would make sense if we don’t see the new wrinkles until OSU. That’s a multimillion dollar game for Monty.

Unless Monty sees something he can exploit against SJSU specifically using the TE, I wouldn't expect to see much of one involved other than blocking from the H-Back spot. Our RBs have never been heavily involved in the passing game which is odd because the dump and run is always available and usually for big gain.

And someone needs to get on Shamari about running forward. Sometimes he overthinks things. A 3 yd gain is better than a run for no gain but the jitterbug he did could have resulted in 15. Just hit the gap hard and fast. This is usually something backups do that make them effective as a change up. We should have seen Wilkerson on a few plays last week just to change the look and pace against MSU's DL.

Then again, if our OL doesn't show any improvement over last week we're in for a long season.

I agree that Wilkerson would have given the offensive a different look. The RB dump off pass and screen are there all night long. If the QB dump off to the RB early in the game it will open up the lanes behind the Linebackers.
