Game of the Night: Eville V CBC

Final CBC 58, Edwardsville 45. CBC too big for an undersized E-ville defense that doesn't tackle well. Eville coach probably didn't run the QB as much as he should have in the 4th. Tried to air it out too much. In the end, Edwardsville has the same defensive woes as last year.
Hey They put up 45 points. Hi scoring teams can win a lot of games and CBC is a tough tough team. WV has not broken 40 points total yet after TWO games!

In 4-A game in Iowa (it's largest class), Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson defeated Sioux City North 99-75. Their RB had 9 TD's.
Yikes.
It was definitely a very winnable game for Edwardsville, but their defense really struggled. The defensive line is small and CBC's offensive line was huge (averaged 290 and all over 6ft). Eville's defense also wasn't tackling very well at all. Like last year, I think the defense will get better as the season progresses, but it will still be an exploitable weakness for good teams like CBC. On the other hand, it WAS CBC that they were playing. CBC is the number one ranked team in our area and #1 in the state of MO. Even with bad defense, Edwardsville was very competitive and had chances to win the game. The QB's passing game has improved a lot, but it still needs some fine tuning. I think the coach was focusing on using the pass a little too much. Even the CBC broadcast team was wondering why Eville was getting away from their bread and butter. CBC has really solid defense and for much of the night was helpless against the Eville QB's running attack. The problem was that when they needed to stick to using the QB to run, they kept trying to throw. When he was trying to find a receiver, the offense stalled. When he kept the ball and ran it himself, he scored several times on long 70 yard type of runs. So it wasn't all bad. Two more big weeks coming up against ESL and WV. Could possibly be another 1-3 start.
With an offense like that I don’t think there is any way Eds will fall to 1-3. At worst I think they split the next two games and end up at 2-2 but probably will end up being two tough wins to start 3-1.

They are kinda relying on their D at least in these first couple games. They won 15-6 over Libertyville.
Libertyville is not bad or anything - they will probably get to 4 wins or maybe 5 if real lucky because they have a very tough schedule. I just don’t see them beating Stevie in any universe and then both Warren and Lake Zurich. They lost a heart breaker in week one 28-27 so they are starting in an 0-2 hole. OPRF was a much better squad IMO than Libertyville (OPRF just stomped on some hapless WSC Gold team 42-14 last nite).
WV warriors really need to step it up because the competition is jumping to a major next level in the next two weeks with game one vs Neuqua and then meeting up with
Edwardsville.
WV has got to punch it in consistently when in the red zone - Trade some of the field goals for touchdowns! If they can do that - I think they can hang - if not... well I don’t want to think about that

Seems like their off to a solid start. I look forward to the match up in week 4.
It’s always fun to watch a game at your place. Just a fantastic facility. WV will really have to strap the pads on and be focused in order to hang, and I hope they give you guys a good game!
From your lips to God’s ears - I would love to see WV Offense get back to scoring in the high 30’s in most games!!
I think if we can get to 35 points there won’t be too many teams out there that can put 35 on WV Defense this year. There aren’t any “jump off the page” Major D1 Prospect type players on their D, but they play as a unit and everyone is focused on doing their job and not out for “me/stats”). That said, there are some teams of course that have the capability to pour it on- Eds being one of those teams with an offense capable of it!!
Well considering we have scored a total of 39 points in our first two games - I will say I am from Missouri and someone will need to “show me” first before I will beleive it!
